One of the reasons we're in this mess is because Americans really don't understand immigration and how the system works in the US. And in that vacuum of knowledge the right has been able to conjure up so many fears that continue to perpetuate themselves.

I get why Trump and his team are doing this-creating conflict to make themselves look tough. But the time they spend on trivial matters is time (and political capital) they are not spending on stuff that actually matters. This is how the covid disaster happened.

Please take it from me, an alarmist, when I tell you that "Trump is coming for naturalized citizens" is an unnecessarily alarmist message. It's really scaring people! 34 years ago today, 14 women, most of whom were studying engineering, were killed by an anti-feminist gun man at École Polytechnique in Montreal. I was a young graduate student studying physics at the time and I will never forget. #MontrealMassacre #NeverForget #WomenInSTEM 🧪🌹
