Who are the undocumented immigrants in Texas? www.texastribune.org/2025/02/17/t...

NEW — The National Treasury Employees Union Chapter 282 just emailed its ~8,000 employee members strongly advising them NOT to reply to the “What did you do last week?” email from OPM/Musk.

“In some ways that’s even more chilling than firing the four stars,” Rosa Brooks, a professor at Georgetown Law. “It’s what you do when you’re planning to break the law: you get rid of any lawyers who might try to slow you down.” By NYT Greg Jaffe www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/u...

What a loss to fire someone with his experience, integrity, thoughtfulness, and empathy.

another excellent brief essential essay in thread-form from josh

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

Gov. Mills showed precisely the sort of integrity in the face of political pressure that the majority of the party currently lacks. More importantly, she did so extemporaneously and without hesitation from a purple state where this isn't a universally popular position. www.maine.gov/governor/mil...

Hope to send you (Uncle Sam) even larger payments (taxes) than we did in 2024. Wish more CEOs acted in this spirit

A long indispensable thread showing the 80 million people on Medicaid by Congressional district.

Listened twice through tonight to David Bowie’s final masterpiece Blackstar. I love this album so much and so amazing he left us this as he passed away (and his previous album The Next Day also incredible).

Donald Trump’s firing of military leaders — four-star General Brown and four-star Admiral Franchetti — along with top legal officers is a betrayal of legions of first rate service members who dedicate their lives to our nation’s defense. This is a growing national security risk.

The poster child for white male mediocrity, Pete Hegseth, is firing qualified Black men and women from the military.

"Boos and shouts erupted around the room. When Grothman praised orders ending birthright citizenship and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, the crowd only got louder." www.wpr.org/news/glenn-g...

So the President not only fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He also fired the top JAGs at the Army, Navy and Air Force. Those are the lead people who determine what is a legal order and what is not. So if you're planning to do things that are illegal they're the most obvious obstacle.

This is a big one. Hope it holds up and know this is not only suit but it seemed insane to me that the federal govt could restrict what nonprofits do with non-federal money and their speech

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court GRANTS sweeping nationwide injunction against Trump DEI executive orders finding that they violate First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution. A huge victory for @democracyforward.org and its clients. A stinging loss for Trump. Visit www.democracydocket.com for details.

This is so many words to say Trump fired the chairman of the joint chiefs because he’s black www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

Side note. There are eight members of the joint chiefs. the chair is black. the CNO (navy) is a woman. the other six are white guys. chair and the cno got fired tonight.

A massive, self-inflicted wound on American higher education.

BREAKING: @pogo.org sued Trump and DOGE in federal court in D.C. today over the administration's efforts to treat DOGE records as presidential records not subject to FOIA for now. Complaint: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

it's true civic degeneracy. no better than eating fritos and watching snuff films in the basement with a needle in your arm.

Trump Moves Cause Widespread Fear Among Nonprofits, survey by @comnetwork.org finds — our latest via @npquarterly.bsky.social #npsky #nonprofitsky #nonprofits #nonprofit nonprofitquarterly.org/trump-moves-...

Fellow Blueskyers, my two cents - we need more amplification and less snark on here. Snark interferes with us telling our story and thus helps MAGA. I realize these are tough times but if we are to win we need to be smart, strategic and disciplined at all times. Onward - S

NEW Republican Congressman Troy Balderson, who reps an R+18 district in Ohio, says President Trump’s executive orders are “getting out of control.” “Congress has to decide whether or not the Departmnet of Education goes away. Not the president. Not Elon Musk. Congress decides,” Balderson said.

Steve Bannon, after calling for Trump to be President for life, did a Nazi salute on stage at CPAC. Nazism has officially taken over the GOP. The few remaining conservatives have a choice: either leave the party and obstruct it—or choose to be complicit.

There is zero ambiguity here. It’s nauseating.

Musk censoring pushback against his policies so fiercely you would think it was a former partner asking him to do Dad stuff

How many federal workers would DOGE need to fire to make up for Musk not paying his fair share of taxes? Answer: 677,000. That's 44% of the entire non-DoD federal workforce. Again, this power grab is not about the budget. It’s about politics.

NEW: “The first nationwide database tracking misconduct by federal police officers has been shut down by President Donald Trump, the Justice Department confirmed.” Because who cares about accountability in law enforcement, amirite? www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

🧐 Context on Elon Musk funding Brad Schimel to ensure a GOP majority in Wisconsin Supreme Court race

I don't think people really get how these employee purges are just going to break the culture of public organizations for a very long time.

Watch this clip, folks 👇 Does Bannon sound like he's joking about Trump becoming dictator for life? Because he isn't.

Jan. 2025--Donald Trump announced $540 billion in pledged investment in AI infrastructure and called on his government to "enhance America's AI leadership." Feb. 2025--Don Jr. and Eric get into the AI data center business. me, for @forbes.com 1/

So: 1. Some people who took the deferred resignation program were fired. 2. Some people who were fired are now being rehired. This just underlines how chaotic the process is. They don't care about the damage they are doing. www.govexec.com/workforce/20...

Wow.

This is the quote…

"[Musk] is trying to gut everything good in America for his own private profit. This is the culmination of what oligarchy is all about...the fusion and the capture of the billionaire class of our democracy." - @aoc.bsky.social with @fedworkersunited.bsky.social today #SaveOurServices

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

Been hoping and waiting for this
