I make beer for a living and for fun. Middle aged ramblings on beer and domestic nonsense. I also grow stuff and keep chickens. Proud member of the Guardian-reading, tofu-eating Wokerati. With a side order of Huddersfield Town.

I’m tempted to rejoin Twitter just to see the inevitable meltdown on there 😂.

DEFINITELY the last one for today, and a pub I could happily call my local. The Arch and Abbey. Brilliant little boozer. Goodnight all and much love x

The Elsinore. More Landlord, but a brilliant little boozer. I could never get tired of drinking here.

I’ve been there twice already this week and it is definitely my favourite boozer in Whitby. Quick half in the Elsinore and then to the Arch & Abbey 👍🏻🍻

Back to The Little Angel for the third time time this week. Brilliant pub, and they’re selling something that I created and selling it in tip-top condition. What’s not to like 🍻

Moving quickly on… Beer O Clock. Half of a Two by Two porter that I forget the name of because I’m a bit pissed, but it was delicious. I came here on Sunday and enjoyed it then as well.

I came here on Sunday but couldn’t resist a return visit. Proper pub and and an excellent pint of Rhatas cc @donnybrewer.bsky.social

Lovely old building but freezing cold even next to the radiator, so I’m keeping my hat on. Taylor’s yet again, but Boltmaker this time.

Next. Back on the ubiquitous but at least reliable Landlord. It’s such a shame when locally produced beers don’t have enough of a following to stay fresh on the bar.

I suspect the beer in question has had low turnover during the week and is on the turn. It might have been delicious on Saturday, but it is lact-tastic now.

I went there on Sunday. Lovely pint of Rhatas.

Another boozer I haven’t been in before. Old Peculier again, so all is well.

… The Green Dragon. And I like it very much. A half of Deya Steady Rolling Man is on the menu.

In other news, I managed to come out without my reading glasses (despite owning hundreds of pairs of the bloody things), so I just popped into Boots, and £15 later I can see again!

A pub I must have walked past a hundred times without ever considering popping in, but as I’m on a mission to do as many Whitby pubs as possible this week I though “Why the heck not!”. And I’m glad I did. Warm, friendly, a harbour view and good beer.

Best foot forward Casketeers! A far less interesting beer line up since the last time I was here, but they do have Old Peculier so I’m not grumbling.

Now in The Waiting Room, where I’m enjoying spotting pump clips for beers that I might have had a hand in. There are a few in there.

The last pub belongs to the infamous Humphrey Smith, so radio silence was maintained throughout. Decent pint of Taddy Lager in front of a roaring fire though, and a lovely glazed brick corridor that I wasn’t allowed to take a picture of.

There are alum works between Sandsend and Kettleness and also between Staithes and Skinningrove. Particularly lunar up there.

My dream is to retire early, buy a camper van and just keep going around the coast.
Realistic chance of it happening = 0%

He enjoys it really, as can be seen here.
My Dad had a habit of “underestimating” walk distances when I was a lad so I make sure that I never do the same because I know how much it can piss off a young walker 😂.

Incidentally, it was a walk up a midge-infested Criffel in the summer that stopped me ever going to Scotland in midge season again. It also lead to me buying a mozzie net to go over my hat. Eaten alive I was.

As we’re doing the path clockwise starting from the Scottish border north of Berwick-upon-Tweed it could be a while before we get to that part.

Double Maxim, excellent choice!
I just had a stroll up the 199 steps to Whitby Brewery, but didn’t check first to see if they would be open when I got there. I arrived at 18:58. They close at 19:00 on a Sunday 🙄.

I think the last time I went up Great Whernside was from Cray in the snow. It wasn’t too bad because everything was frozen solid 😂

Nine miles, but it felt like more with all the slipping and sliding in the mud. Brilliant though.

Aye, we went to that coffee roasters at the end of our walk. Took some finding! They have a nice shop just outside Wakey Westgate too.

I’m considering how we might go about doing the Wolds Way in the next couple of years. That would include a Goodmanham visit.
