Gotta love Barkley!

Please read this, by my colleague @nickkristof.bsky.social. Children are dying because of aid cuts. It's just cruel. And it's not even for the sake of fiscal responsibility. The GOP is proposing a tax/spending plan that will add trillions to our debt. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

I have been (and am) "hard NO" on Blank Check for Musk. What's strongest case *for* Senate Ds letting it through? Obviously not Schumer op-ed Try this by Martin Longman/Progress Pond. (It's a pick-your-poison argument.) I'm still "No!" but it's worth reading. www.progresspond.com/2025/03/14/f...

If you don’t get your child vaccinated against measles, it can put them at a high risk of this serious infection, which can lead to severe complications or even death. Make sure your child’s measles vaccination is up to date.

Comments accurately sum up my feelings about Schumer’s announcement.

If the only issue of "fairness in women's sports" you care about is whether trans women are allowed, but aren't fighting for pay parity, maternity policies, better abuse protections, increased funding, media coverage, etc, then you don't actually care about fairness in women's sports.

Nothing but the best people.

File under: dumb construction signage. Blocking a bike lane to say that road work ends here.

Laying off thousands of IRS agents will worsen budget deficits. I understand the IRS is deeply unpopular, but the more we encourage tax evasion among high-earners and corporations, the more they'll eventually need to raise your taxes to plug the gap. washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Very proud of these Santa Rosa kids, recently censored by the school district, for: - not backing down - writing a satirical one-act musical about “Mommies Against the Arts” - and taking top honors for it out of 75 other high schools at a statewide festival!

Mapmaker here 👋 Let’s talk about critical cartography. Like all critical studies, critical cartography identifies which groups are favored the most by dominant social institutions - Critical cartography specifically focuses on maps & mapmaking. (1/4)

“Why do I need NOAA? I’ve got a weather app.” Is equivalent to asking “Why do I need farms? I can go to the supermarket.” www.noaa.gov/about-our-ag...

Vision Zero works, if your city actually does the hard work of making the necessary changes to the transportation network that actually put safety first. Hoboken, NJ has done this, and has gone seven consecutive years without a traffic fatality. www.hobokennj.gov/news/city-of...

A gut punch for local journalism.

I'm deeply saddened to share that Donald Shoup passed away last night. He was the ideal academic—curious, methodical, and concerned with turning ideas into real-world change. TAing his parking course these past few years has one of the greatest honors of my life. Rest in peace, Shoup Dogg.

How does disbanding the National Society for Black Engineers Club at West Point (or anywhere else) strengthen national security? Clearly, it does not. Per the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the domestic demand for new civil engineers alone is roughly 25,000 people per year through the early 2030s.

We're not in CA Water Wars territory (yet). But ham-handed attempts to score political points on the backs of central valley farmers won't end well.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Korematsu. Our diversity is our strength!

Hear me out: What if, instead of infringing on Americans’ rights and taking stuff away from them, Congress gave them even *more rights*? If that sounds good to you, that’s fundamentally what a national data privacy law — governing all companies, not just the Big Bad of the day — is all about.

To keep myself slightly sane, I've set a personal goal of doing a dozen "big" runs/hikes this year. First one is comign up soon, and has ~20 miles and just shy of 6,000' of elevation. Wish me luck!
