Nice! Many years back I found The Jimmy Giuffre Clarinet (1956), the album following this one, in a bargain bin. I grew quite fond of the album, although not keen on the West Coast boys until much later. It was reissued in ?1984, still in mono.
I recommend it if you can find a copy.

"Last Kind Word". Either Geeshie Wiley or Rhiannon Giddens version.

With your broad exposure I'm sure you're aware of this one. I'm very fond of the classic Elis & Tom 1974. I came to bossa nova late but have grown to love it over the past 15-20 years.

Wiki: "Barabbas is a 1950 novel by Pär Lagerkvist. It tells a version of the life of Barabbas, the man whom the Bible relates was released instead of Jesus." I won't give away the plot. The book floored me. Par was awarded the Nobel Prize.

I checked Discogs for the Onyx catalog. I only have God Is in the House and a Red Rodney. Solid stuff and well-recorded for the time. Onyx wasn't big in central PA in the '70's.

Counterpart was such a terrific series! JK Simmons was as good as he usually is, maybe better playing two characters with different personalities. So sorry to see that go. I'm surprised that it's rarely mentioned when great TV series are discussed. Thanks for the reminder.

Not the best, I'm sure, but it's a fine album.

Love the obvious signs of aging on the jacket.

A wonderful singer! To my mind, very underappreciated.

And another great David Stone Martin cover.

You made me check to see if John was gone. It seems
he's still alive at 93. Yay, John! My favorite prose writer of his era.

I've loved his playing for years. Hadn't seen a video or heard about the JR Morton influence. Thanks! (Farro St Jive is still my favorite album.)

Terrific album! I was just listening to it the other day.
