movie you've watched more than 6 times using gifs (no sw, st, or lotr)

Ignoble serial failure appointed to TVNZ board

Christopher Lloyd's character in The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension is named John Bigbooté.

Saw someone posting about fonts and it reminded me of this, which I noticed as a teenager who liked Iron Maiden and David Bowie.

Denis Villeneuve should cast himself as the baddie in his James Bond movie

Three episodes into Doctor Who: The Ambassadors of Death (1970) and there's been gunfights, helicopter stunts, fistfights, and the third episode ended with a car chase that turns into a foot chase. It plays more like The Avengers than classic Who! I'm not complaining.

Everything I Log Into At Work: tick here if you never want to get this reminder again! Me: [ticks box] EILIAW: Ok, I will remind you at least once a day!

RIP Lalo Schifrin, who composed a score for The Exorcist trailer that was rejected because test audiences allegedly found it too disturbing. He also composed scores for Michael Ritchie's unhinged Prime Cut, George C. Scott's bizarre Rage, and the Mission: Impossible theme.

What it's like hanging out with me.

I picked up the Mass Effect trilogy for cheap so now my life is just playing all the Mass Effect games for like the fourth time.

This is true, but David Seymour assumes all of the appearance and privilege of a white man, and grew up subject to none of the disadvantages and racial prejudice that most Māori face.

I mean who doesn't want to see Ronald Reagan get beaten up by John Cassavetes and killed by Lee Marvin?

news is awful post a godzilla

probably a good time to bring this back

According to this, you could get your pay docked for not doing unpaid overtime.

I'm sure that back in the day there was a trailer or tv spot for Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man with Don Michael Paul talking about how he wrote the movie and it's gonna be awesome, but I can't find it on youtube.

There are some shameless scalpers on trademe. A while back I lost an auction to a repeat offender in Hawera who immediately relisted the same item at twice the price. Now I found someone in Wellington selling in-print blu rays at twice the retail price. Wish there was an option to blacklist them.

“For the love of Godard, Montresor!”

Using food to show where I grew up

This puts me in mind of "She's A Killer" by Kirsten McDougall, an excellent novel from 2021 in which NZ is basically taken over by rich golden visa immigrants dubbed "wealthugees." A book with a wit so sharp you might walk away not realising you're bleeding to death.

Paris 2019 v. Today: I don’t think people realize how immense @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s legacy will be.

This whole thread is a master class in "the best system is the one I'm more familiar with," humans are both very adaptable and resistant to change

3. Master of the Flying Guillotine

Sometimes I feel weird about spending so much time talking and thinking about frivolous things like movies and music when the world is filled with doom. Then I remember that we need to live in a world with joy in it. If someone you care about is suffering, it doesn't help them to suffer yourself.

Remembering that Starmer doesn't have a favourite book or poem, and doesn't dream

I rented Mac and Me on VHS as a kid and someone had overtaped it with a rugby game

Do you think that Steven Spielberg watches the seventy million ridiculous shark movies like Eight-Headed Shark Attack, Ghost Shark 2: Urban Jaws, Dracushark, Onsen Shark, Ouija Shark 2, Noah's Shark, Santa Jaws, Sharktopus or Shark Side of the Moon and whispers "Who's your daddy?"

20 June, 2025. The fiftieth anniversary of the release of Jaws, a movie that signaled the start of the permanent decline of American cinema. Studios have chased the next "biggest movie of all time" ever since.

I probably would have gone to see those immensely long nothing-happens Kevin Costner Horizon westerns if I knew that the cinematographer was the director of Street Trash

Doctor Who: The Ambassadors of Death (1970) is different. It's got the tone of a Nigel Kneale story mixed with an ITC action/adventure serial - lots of action, stunts, gun violence, car chases etc, a political conspiracy thriller plot, and a Quatermass-style mystery from space. Splendid so far.

In Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991), Americans from the future use time travel to prevent Godzilla from being created and thus stop Japan from becoming rich enough to buy the world. The movie also involves psychics, a dinosaur fighting American soldiers, and Steven Spielberg's dad.

Name a vampire film, show, book, and song 🦇 Film: Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural (1973) Show: Cliffhangers (1979) Book: The Vampire Tapestry by Suzy McKee Charnas (1980) Song: Dracula by Desmond Dekker (1964)

Happy birthday to Barry Manilow and Kendrick Lamar, have they collaborated yet?

Looks like there are zero screenings of Jaws in Wellington this Friday for the 50th anniversary.

Hm, let's think... best I can come up with is "Diary of the Kirk Years" by Margaret Hayward, which he briefly appeared in, but in terms of things that he himself showed me or recommended to me or gave to me, I'd have to say nothing at all.

Don't scare me like that! Despite what Josh Olson says in this episode, Al Leong is still alive.
