Three episodes into Doctor Who: The Ambassadors of Death (1970) and there's been gunfights, helicopter stunts, fistfights, and the third episode ended with a car chase that turns into a foot chase. It plays more like The Avengers than classic Who! I'm not complaining.

This puts me in mind of "She's A Killer" by Kirsten McDougall, an excellent novel from 2021 in which NZ is basically taken over by rich golden visa immigrants dubbed "wealthugees." A book with a wit so sharp you might walk away not realising you're bleeding to death.

Doctor Who: The Ambassadors of Death (1970) is different. It's got the tone of a Nigel Kneale story mixed with an ITC action/adventure serial - lots of action, stunts, gun violence, car chases etc, a political conspiracy thriller plot, and a Quatermass-style mystery from space. Splendid so far.
