Liatris spicata -- common name blazing star. Native to North America. Genus name from German Joseph Gaertner (botanist/plant collector) and colleague Johann Schreber (professor of medicine/botany) in 1791. Liatris is 'new Latin' with no meaning. Spicata means, like, spike-like. #summerdry 🌱

Polemonium caeruleum (Jacob's Ladder). Hardy perennial native to temperate regions of Europe. Jacob's Ladder rose to Heaven in a dream he had during his flight from his brother Esau. So saith they. Not to be confused with Stairway to Heaven--a song to never tire of--saith I. #summerdry 🌱

After all, Canada invented hockey. Hat's off Connor McDavid for that perfect goal. Canada beats USA 3-2 in overtime. And don't you forget it. Love, your neighbors, the sovereign state known as Canada. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Esju...

Honeysuckle blooming on the honeysuckle vine. Lonicera, that is. And a lovely lemon-scented reblooming rose with the somewhat unfortunate name of 'Golden Showers'. #summerdry 🌱

Heavenly Blue morning glory--a cultivar of Ipomoea tricolor from Mexico. Convolvulaceae family, native to the tropics of the Americas. Wouldn't be a garden without morning glories. Not long enough growing season here for Ipomoea alba--night-blooming moonflowers. I tried. And tried. #summerdry 🌱
