No, the centre-right party won.

Or all of them in so much detail that they'll have to hire more federal workers to go through them. Oh, who am I kidding... fucking AI will read it. Musk probably plans to use the bullet points as training data for AI to ultimately replace the workers who answer.

They introduced a new option last week to only allow your followers to interact with your posts. That'll help squash those uncommitted discoverers.

Elser was executed in Dachau, on April 9, 1945 - like many other prominent dissidents - as Hitler's regime collapsed. For years, Nazi propaganda and conspiracy theories obscured his legacy. But Georg Elser, acting alone, came closer than anyone to saving millions from war and genocide. (10/10)

Not to be all arrrrr, but I don't think individuals have ever been prosecuted for removing DRM from their own copies. But yeah, I'd prefer an official way, too.

I looked it up, the video's from a used car dealer. I think they're unironically trying to hype up their fleet.

Yes to any physical representation of resistance and dissent! The Norwegians wore paper clips on their clothing to defy the Nazi German occupation and express solidarity with the disenfranchised. Show them and each other that you're there.

Memphis Minnie is the stuff of myths. And she really deserves more attention as a seminal blues musician. I love Langston Hughes' account of one of her shows in Chicago, 1947: "The electric guitar is very loud, science having magnified all of its softness away." (1/2)

I had to look this up. Apparently, the maple leaf is also made of cannabis. All the other ornaments, too.

It should be self-evident, to everyone, and it seems silly to keep repeating it, because the truth of the matter is so simple and clear. Anyone who sees any complexity in it has fallen for the propaganda to obfuscate the obvious: Russia is the aggressor, Ukraine their victim.

Someone, anybody, should be doing that thing that would be unwise to put in writing.

I think you have to give a lot of credit to the European Union for that. Without their regulation, I don't think the tech industry would have had the incentive to do this.

AND citizens, too. I get where the defeatism and the fear come from, but I find it absolutely maddening to see that there are no major physical protests in the US.

Übrigens komme ich Montag um 5 auf einen Augenblick zu Dir, sollte ich Dich im Arbeiten stören, verläugne Dich. Franz Kafka, 1908? (aus einem wohl nicht versendeten Brief an Max Brod)

I'd say the implementation in Germany is relatively well done, and I find it hard to imagine a practical solution that does not involve feeding into the grid. Just the battery you'd need. But of course that would necessitate a legal framework that is hard to imagine in the US, today.

Car owners would pay less for the electricity, the private homes supplying it would receive more in return, and unnecessary conversion & transmissions losses would be averted. A win-win-win. The conservative party blocked it, because it would be unfair to drivers of petrol cars. (2/2)

Bit of a tangent, but maybe instructive: An initiative in a local community tried to connect private homes w/ solar panels with owners of electric cars. When more energy is produced than the household consumes, instead of feeding the excess electricity into the grid, cars could be charged there. 1/2

In early 1939, Elser began gathering materials for his bomb. He stole explosives and detonators from a quarry where he worked and hid them in a false-bottom suitcase. In his parents' orchard, he tested prototypes, refining a timer mechanism to ensure precision. (5/10)

It's worth noting that we're seeing it from very different angles, because you actually do have the problem of too much engagement & I feel queasy when I get more than 2 likes. I agree that your approach is more sensible here. I still think the internet needs to accommodate more "thinking time".

I sometimes wonder what would change if comments would only open ~10 minutes after a post. Just pre-empting this avalanche of low-effort knee-jerk responses that drown out everything worthwhile within minutes. The early birds getting the worms produce a ton of crap.

I get where you're coming from, but it's honestly a bit of a bummer when you're trying to write a thoughtful response, even spend a few minutes to double-check your facts, and by the time you hit 'send' the post is locked. It might discourage others from making an effort, too.

Breaks my heart. All of it. It's $45/year to provide the antiretroviral therapy for an HIV-patient. $45 for a life. Within weeks of stopping ART, the virus will rebound in 20 million people, among which 500,000 children and pregnant women. Anyone who condones this is a monster, plain and simple.

Looks alright for a terminal-based minimalist word processor, no? I made myself something similar with Python just last week (to use on a writer deck that I won't actually build).

I get why Americans are so disillusioned with mass protests, but PLEASE take to the streets. You have to shout urgency into your representatives, show them and each other that you're there. Show the disenfranchised that you're with them & the fascists that you stand against them. In the flesh.

PS: I do not want to insinuate that the SFI is somehow guilty of anti-diversity, but I think this would be the time to be more vocal about their values.
comment in response to post
Don't give them any ideas. But incidentally, I really hope that, in light of all this, independent research institutions like the SFI will now double down on DEI. I say "double down", but the SFI hasn't really mentioned diversity in the first place (except for in replicator networks).

The spinelessness of this statement - not acknowledging the obvious target of the "review" with a single word - is the cherry on the cake.
