Agreed, wholeheartedly. If MPs vote for this, it’ll be because it was never about morals for them but keeping their seat. (Also, incidentally, I suspect it will turn out to only help until one’s next review…at which point they’ll claim you’re a new claimant again, or something…)

That whole thing is revolting.

Wow, the running costs must be massive if they’re not…actually…running. (Also, ffs, that’s instead of money on PIP so it’s not like an added extra. If they’re doing very little, the government is getting a bargain!)

The “moderates” have been got onside so I don’t think there are enough left to make a difference, unfortunately. A lot of MPs didn’t do it for morality reasons but because they worried their constituents would boot them and if they think it’ll save their skins, they’ll take it.

Rodent thing that can’t quite be defined but has a fidget toy.

(Also, I have to ask… the kid who asked you in the first place… is he an eel-legitimate child of yours?)
comment in response to post
It’s an eel wind that blows nobody any good.

Is this the real life? Is this eel-ality?
comment in response to post
“Is nothing real? Is nothing an eel?”

Maybe the transes will cancel each other out and instead of trans men and women they will just be men and women and instead of transit, it will just become an “it” and everything will be PRONOUNS all the way down.

Masses of love to you, too, and shy getting-to-know-you love to Kira :)

This this this! (Also, I want to be as eloquent as you, Kira!)

Trump is currently showing how impossible it is to get your own way when holding that position, after all.

They believed me, but it wouldn’t have occurred to them if I hadn’t mentioned it. They’d just have continued only to see bad publicity & probably be some of the people with “I support trans people’s right to be themselves, but it’s a pity they’re causing trouble…” opinions. Now they’ll think twice.

It also doesn’t save money as vulnerable people will end up needing more from the NHS and other government services thanks to the further health and other issues this will cause them.

Both! Both for tess!

Also a party for those unable to work, whether because there aren’t jobs for them or because they’re too sick.

Brilliant, thank you ever so much.

I’m so glad that wasn’t too weird a comment to leave on someone’s post. I was halfway through commenting and then wondered why anyone would care about my art teacher of 30 years ago, but it was such a visceral memory…
comment in response to post
My art teacher used to pronounce it Cereal-ism, so the temptation is to finish with “porridge” but it would be a niche joke, and make too much sense *as* that niche joke…

This is something that would be very helpful to have alt text for.

Seconded the gratitude. It makes such a difference; and it’s especially obvious when talking about disabled issues, but on all matters disabled people deserve to be able to be part of the conversation.

Oh lovely. I don’t know: I have to admit I didn’t look at it very closely as there’s no way I could possibly do a job even if they throw me off all benefits (a distinct possibility, I’m on the grey line). But it figures even that is not as good as it sounds.

Not when it’s a dogwhistle for “blokes, please go after anyone you think is trans entering a toilet to harass them and call it ‘protecting women’”.
comment in response to post
That’s my feeling about it. It’s saying, “men, beat up trans women” (or anyone you think is trans) with enough plausible deniability that she can say with a straight face, “but I never said anything like that!”
comment in response to post
Seriously. Wtaf? Is she a trad wife now? Does she need a big manly man to protect her? More to the point, is this a veiled request for cis men to go into women’s loos to harass anyone they consider not feminine enough?
comment in response to post
It is. I refuse to like or repost anything that doesn’t have alt text, as although I don’t need it despite being multiply disabled, it feels otherwise like I’m saying to people with vision issues, “I only care about disability accessibility when it affects ME” - which I’m not okay with.
comment in response to post
You’re welcome. I kept seeing it everywhere without alt text; and as I have the spoons to manage today, I’ve taken a break from feeling like a horrible person because I’m nagging people about doing it themselves, and actually Been Useful.
comment in response to post
This was unexpectedly perfect, thank you so much for making my day.

With alt text (And I’m off to delete the photo I had to download to put this up, I feel dirty even having it on my iPad temporarily)

Put the money promised into the “try a job and if you can’t do it you can go back on benefits” because that does seem a good policy. Keep and improve access to work for disabled people, don’t gut it. Cut tax loopholes to make up the money. Then see whether the benefit bill cuts itself…
comment in response to post
Certain. They don’t seem to understand that you need to spend money to save money, except when it comes to literal buildings. Reduce waiting lists so that people who are on the benefits because they need surgery or specialist help *get it*, add air purifiers to buildings to prevent illness spread…
comment in response to post
If they’re disabled as well, certainly.

Heaven help anyone with the temerity to be fat and trans and want HRT and not diet jabs…

Yes, so grateful to the French media for having the honesty to do what our own won’t.
