As David Brooks has said, we’re approaching civil disobedience and national strikes phase of defending our nation.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...

"Republican lawmakers have moved forward this year with bills to restrict abortion in more than half of the states where voters passed constitutional amendments in November to protect or expand reproductive rights." www.nbcnews.com/politics/pol...

US campaign entices Canada tourists: “Come visit America and also maybe El Salvador!”

I will say this - EVERYONE with power seems to be desperately hoping that unpopularity does the work that consequences need to do

Bone chilling. A court ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to stay in the United States. The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he was illegally removed. Trump is pretending he won the ruling 9-0. 1/ You may not think this case means anything to you. But let me tell you why it does.

Four R senators and four R House members could announce they're caucusing with the Dems for now, and will vote for Schumer for Majority Leader and Jeffries for Speaker, because the threat to the rule of law is dire. Meanwhile, they'll work with Democrats to construct guardrails against dictatorship.

"I have witnessed large parts of society turn their heads and deliberately reject the truths that have been presented to them." www.theguardian.com/science/2025...

For those who aren't following, the Trump Administration is claiming that they do not have to bring back people they have wrongfully deported without due process. Essentially, once they're in el Salvador, there's nothing they can do. Holy ****, this is bad. 1/n www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

Our numbers likely aren't large enough even if we turn out in large numbers to win in 2026, presuming semi-free and fair elections. We need a bigger tent that will pick up folks disaffected from Trump but we've got to figure out how to tolerate some points of view we don't share.

If you've ever enjoyed Lady Bird Lake in Austin for recreation, you have Rachel Carson to thank. It was cleaned up bc she included a chapter about its pollution in the book Silent Spring. I'm looking forward to seeing this. More from @indelibleaustin.bsky.social: www.statesman.com/story/news/e...

🧵 TEXAS: How do you feel about lowering the age to carry a handgun, with or without a license, to 18-20 year olds? That's what your #txlege is considering in the Homeland Security, Public Safety and Veteran Affairs Committee Monday morning with HB 2470. Feel safer yet? Wait, there's more! (1/6)

This is so embarrassing

"No one, apparently, is willing to prevent a single man from destroying the world economy, wrecking financial markets, forcing this country and other countries into recession if that’s what he feels like doing when he gets up tomorrow morning" www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Due to budget cuts, the TSA is now using the honor system.

"The Mississippi Library Commission ordered the deletion of two research collections that might violate state law, a memo obtained by Mississippi Today shows. "One of the now deleted collections focused on 'race relations' and the other on 'gender studies'...” mississippitoday.org/2025/04/08/m...

Pam Bondi brazenly lies, tells Trump that he was "overwhelmingly elected by the biggest majority" and says "you have the authority to determine how the money of this country will be spent."

As the author of a history of concentration camps, I would like to emphasize that this is a very bad idea, and we should definitely not do it.
