Averaging brain responses is not a great idea... #neuroscience #neuroskyence www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Anyone going to the DC event? Thinking of taking the train down for the day

Good old neuroscience for a change Subcortical reward #neuroscience

Interesting that Yale Medical School is providing bridge funds but not really possible at state universities. Research will be substantially reduced.

Scientists are now organizing events, called Stand Up for Science, on 7 March in Washington, D.C., and state capitals. So far, they have attracted more than 100 volunteers from some 30 states who are hoping to rally support for research as a public good. scim.ag/4328LAD

New episode (1061), with Dr. Lauren Ross (@laurennross.bsky.social). We talk about causation and explanation in #Science. #Philosophy YouTube: youtu.be/sbY40h-1gKY Podcast: bit.ly/4hLHjvL

Hippocampus??? For *human* fMRI analysis at normal resolution (2x2x2mm) what are the best anatomical masks for the hippocampus, say anterior vs. posterior? Definitely not fields. Or anything else one should look into, thanks.

One finds this relationship in the data. Does it make sense to even talk about the "global inverse correlation"? (all dots have the same color)

Almost three years ago we were publishing an extensive review on multilayer networks modeling and analysis of complex biological, social, socio-technical and engineering systems: from cells to societies. #ComplexSystems Multilayer #NetworkScience www.cambridge.org/core/element...

I lost my job at the National Science Foundation yesterday, along with 167 of my colleagues, including some dear friends. This was the best job I've ever had, and I thought it would be my last. The PI community has been sympathetic and supportive, without exception. I will miss working for you.

I still don't think it's sunk in to many that after February 20th, there ain't no study sections.

Welcome to the Bluesky account for Stand Up for Science 2025! Keep an eye on this space for updates, event information, and ways to get involved. We can't wait to see everyone #standupforscience2025 on March 7th, both in DC and locations nationwide! #scienceforall #sciencenotsilence

Whether you are an AI skeptic or enthusiast, relatively novice or expert, Melanie Mitchell's approach is refreshing and welcome Last entries on Othello are fascinating Help's to remember that "what neural networks learn" has been a target (literally) since two-layer Perceptrons! aiguide.substack.com

Today, along with 2,000 other NIH employees, I had to clear out my office 😭 It was truly the honor of my life to work with such incredibly passionate people focused on improving human health. I’ve never experienced a more positive culture where *everyone* cared about their job and serving others.
