A teacher uses AI to inspire her students to visualize what they would look if their dreams came true. Yes, this made me tear up. It makes me happy cry watching precious moments like this.

This is so adorable, it makes me wish I had a Mac Mini. amzn.to/4e3lKWx "Honey, I need a Mac Pro." "We have a Mac Pro at home."

Happy Obama Day!

Communing with the moon jellies today.

Currently giving some back story to the eugenics movement. Dr. Oz's announcement today proves it's still around. Also, somebody needs to do a study of how likely a prisoner is to be approved for conjugal visits, broken down by race.

As a chemist, this smells like a massive scam. I'd like to see a breakdown of how many kwh go into making a liter of gas. Prediction: You're basically turning your gas car into an EV with extra steps, and ~1/100th the mileage. www.popsci.com/environment/...

Sudden hit of nostalgia. I'm a little surprised that I've never seen a refillable version to make your own.

If you've never heard of them, do yourself a favor and check them out! Ruby 2 and other series were an unalloyed joy for me at a time before podcasts were a thing. If you Like Night Vale, this might be your retro-jam!

The thing is that I encounter accounts who have completely bought into the bot-spread misinformation and continue to spread it. They even seem to have learned their social media behavior from the bots. I suggest we call them MAWBABs. (Might As Well Be A Bot).

I'm not affiliated, just a fan, but you MUST check out ZBS if you like audio fiction. They've been making surreal, experimental, fascinating, and entertaining radio plays since the time when they were actually radio plays. I'm so happy that they're still at it. www.zbs.org/shop/

The sun's come out, but sometimes a book is hard to put down.

I really think I need something besides an optical mouse. Inky's fine hairs are perfect for getting under and confusing it.

Hot Take: "Affected" is the past tense of the verb "affect," meaning to influence or change something. "Effected" is the past tense of the verb "effect," which means to bring about or cause something to happen. 1/2

I see your chatGPT is my best friend and raise you chatGPT is my child's emergency medical provider

Meanwhile, Coke ran 3 AI ads at Xmas and saw 11% sales growth. The backlash is a social media thing, but almost never materializes IRL. Most people only care about the product, not how it was made; even in groups you'd think would care a lot. snarklelabs.com/everybody-ha...

"It will create forgetfulness in the their souls. They will trust to the external written characters and not remember of themselves. They'll have a poor memory, and will be incapable of carrying on a coherent conversation." —Plato about AI (or something)

I just had a lovely and totally unhelpful conversation with ChatGPT trying to identify this decal

Hello to the folks checking this place out because #twitter is down. Take it from someone who was on twitter for 15 years, This a much nicer place. You should stay here. Check out the follow lists and find some interesting folks.

I promised myself I'd hold off on this until I did a post that _wasn't_ AI. Oh well, next time. "Everybody Hates AI" Time for some data-driven ground-truthing from an unusual (but telling) source. snarklelabs.com/everybody-ha...

Remember when it was a big deal that Gore didn't cross the street and use his personal phone to make a fund raising phone call? I do.

Same here w/ my parents, but "parents have busy lives" doesn't capture it. My parents had FREE time, which barely exists today. Even in the 80's, dual income families were still the minority. Today, a dual-degree family likely has both parents in non-hourly jobs fielding emails at 10pm.
