I think we need to find a compromise where commuters can switch to public transport for the last mile, and public transport and bike lanes in the city must get *much, much* better. Berlin is just too small for that much car traffic & the people who live here (including kids!) getting around safely.

We live in a more confined space and pay higher prices and get less nature, and that's fair. But I really don't see why we also need to give up healthy air and so much public space so that people who don't live here can park right in front of their workplace for free.

We subsidize car ownership like crazy with free or cheap parking already. I don't think it's reasonable that commuters should be the main consideration for inner-city planning: Commuters get to live more cheaply and with more space in exchange for the inconvenience of commuting. That's the deal?
