This is a great, nuanced, exploration of how AI will impact school homework (and already is doing so). Really got me thinking about how useful some of the homework I did actually was... www.searchengine.show/listen/searc...

Our Mathematics Teachers' Conference is back in June! Join us for a fascinating day of talks, discussions and more, and a keynote talk from the brilliant Rob Eastaway.

Self-healing #potholes could pave the way for sustainable roads. Joint research by kingsnmes.bksy.social, swanseauni.bsky.social and Google Cloud is tackling the UK’s £143 million pothole problem. 👉 www.kcl.ac.uk/news/self-healing-potholes-pave-the-way-for-more-sustainable-roads #ScienceAtKings

Really looking forward to running this event for the first time! Please share with any schools people you know - open to teachers, careers advisors and more. And FREE!

Honored to get to share hands-on science with patients at Evelina London Children's Hospital. For me, nothing beats seeing the pure joy young people can get having fun exploring science! youtu.be/0nj7shn0F3Y?...

I would LOVE to know how often this product is ordered. Feels incredibly niche to me!

Today is International Day of Women & Girls in Science. Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. Her contributions have left an indelible mark on the world of science & health & continue to inspire generations of scientists & innovators. 🔬 #WomenInScience #WomenInSTEM

Please share with any teachers you know! This free event should give you insight into the world of engineering, and what your students might get out of a career in this sector.

I am loving the creativity of these instruments; how did it take me so long to discover this competition?! youtu.be/9W5hCLdK3DI?...

We've had an amazing day hosting out Girls Robotics Challenge! Our 50 participants worked on their robot designs, learnt how to code servos and saw some real working robots down in our labs. Amazing to see so many young people passionate about robotics!

I love this unique approach to explaining scientific concepts - likely the first and only time Peppa Pig will get a shout-out in an academic lecture!

There's nothing I love more than a rigorous investigation of a silly question.

I'm really looking forward to this event! @markmiodownik.bsky.social is a fantastic speaker so don't miss out on your free ticket - inperson or online.

So excited to run this programme again this summer! Please share with any teachers or young people you know, it's a great opportunity for anyone interested in STEM and looking to know more about the varied job opportunities in this field.

Anyone working with BBC micro:bits - I'm really enjoying working with the robo:bit mk3 from @4tronix.co.uk. So easy for students to use, enabling them to go from zero to seeing their code control a robot within an hour session!

The only 'Blue Monday' article you'll ever need theneuroscienceofeve... It's #BlueMonday again. And this is all you'll ever need to read to know the 'truth' about it Which is that it's a ridiculous marketing stunt that got way out of hand and impacted me more than most people

I still get excited seeing my cover articles in the wild! This month's The Week Junior Science+Nature is another cracker of an issue.

Thank you Google Photos for selecting this 2kg sweet potato I was delivered by Sainsburys six years ago, as a key life moment to highlight. (peanut butter jar for scale)

This was an absolutely incredible talk to see in person - amazing work from David and the @ri-science.bsky.social demonstrations team! www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqTP...

Amazing to see another full house for an outreach event here at @kingsnmes.bsky.social! Lots of hands-on interactive physics, from wobbling rattlebacks to quantum levitation. Our next talk is booking up fast - get your tickets now! www.kcl.ac.uk/events/kings...

Do you know a UK-based wheelchair user who works in a lab and would be willing to user-test our prototype of what is believed to be the first-ever lab coat adapted for wheelchair users? Please share far & wide! Interest form: forms.office.com/e/66FhcQjqRT More info: www.ucl.ac.uk/ucl-east/new...

The annual #BigGardenBirdwatch is great citizen science project to get involved in. I'll be logged the red kite I often see over my garden!

New favourite creepy science term: "kiss-and-capture"

It's a Pete double dose in the January Issue of The Week Junior Science+Nature! I explore the amazing power of electricity, alongside my usual monthly Q&A column. The perfect magazine for any science-keen child in your life!

Merychippus everyone 🎄🐎

Who wants to see the worst pie chart of the year #dataviz

Amazing to know there are still species left to discover! *Dusts off explorers hat* www.theguardian.com/environment/...

A lovely night spent at @ri-science.bsky.social for a presentation of Michael Faraday's classic Christmas Lectures 'The Chemical History of a Candle'. An incredible array of demonstrations - well worth watching when it pops up on the Ri YouTube channel soon.

This was a really interesting competition - the students who took part wrote some amazing and unique stories, do check them out!

Watch out animators...

Have you ever considered the science behind snowflakes? Professor Carla Molteni, from @kingsnmes.bsky.social, is here with a flurry of frosty facts – answering whether all snowflakes are truly unique. #KingsQs #ScienceAtKings #snowflakes #snow #ice #science #physics #weather

I've seen the first two being filmed - they're great as usual! Perfect Xmas viewing for any young people in your lives.

Starbucks have an interesting maths problem for you this Christmas. What has the larger surface area - a square cake or a Christmas tree shaped cake?! For those of us who want the largest slice of cake of our money, this is important!

Great to see a full house for our first Annual Engineering for Schools Lecture @kingsnmes.bsky.social! Fab talks from PhD student Mostafa Mousa exploring his journey to building robots, and from Prof Claire Lucas exploring how Engineering can be used to improve the world for everyone.

'When Notre-Dame reopened on 7 December, it was thanks, in part, to the efforts of 175 researchers with expertise across a range of disciplines: acoustics, art, data, history, archaeology, anthropology.' Example of why blue-skies research matters for 'real-life' problems we've not yet imagined. 1/2

Huge thanks to @megjlow.bsky.social for showing me #turtlestitch! Such a simple but flexible too - perfect for outreach activities. Now to find money to buy an embroidery machine...

Today I learned some crab species only walk on four legs, as they use their rear legs to carry sea urchins on their backs for defense. Amazing!
