In the lead up to the Iraq war I was managing a UK based division of a US corp, we supplied the automotive industry worldwide including Renault with factories in Iran. I was told by my US VP to get our people out 'before we bomb them.' "Do you mean Iraq?" I asked. His reply - "Iraq, Iran, whatever"

The client (and his PA with whom I shared the blame) took pity on us and we got the meeting later the same day 😁

I once turned up for an important meeting a month early. Along with my business partner who had flown from Canada to London to join me.

They did seem to be agreeing on one thing - that there were things they'd like to say but couldn't because of OFCOM.

Must admit I thought the Hurdy-gurdy was a keyboard instrument (which I suppose it is in a way).
Prompted me to look it up.

Costs rose from £100m to £1bn.
I think this can still be seen as a positive story though.
Also, the Government Major Projects Portfolio (GMPP) is in general a very good thing, but seems to be rarely mentioned.

I'd seen an article about the person responsible for leading this transformation. I looked for it and instead found this...
'The Passport Transformation Programme began work in 2016 and has been subject to various delays and increases in cost...'

Pre-mortems can work very well. They seem to engage a different mode of thinking. (Think I first heard the idea via Daniel Kahneman.)

'Incrementally better' can achieve a lot given time.
(I'd be happy with some radical changes too, done properly.)

I tuned in to Times Radio (which is normally quite good, depending on the presenter) at the weekend and there were 3 relatively rich and successful people agreeing that this country needs radical change. I feel certain that any deeper exploration would reveal that they wouldn't agree what to change.

That's an excellent idea - except mine is now asleep on my lap, so I'll just need to sit here for a while with Bluesky and tea.
