Got there in the end. The one guess that arguably cost me was the 3rd, but it still gave me useful information. Wordle 1,345 5/6 🟨🟨⬜⬜🟨 ⬜⬜🟨🟨🟨 ⬜⬜🟩🟩🟩 ⬜🟨🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

It appears that privileged legal documents from sexual abuse victims were inappropriately exchanged between the Department of Social Services, the Catholic Church and The Australian newspaper: www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/share/20227/...

A useful 1st guess. There were only 4 possible words, and only 2 of those were likely. Wordle 1,344 2/6 ⬜🟩🟨🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

We can do more to appeal to males to embrace climate action. Cultural norms - "petromasculinality" - tend to work against positive responses, but it is possible: open.substack.com/pub/maxopray...

The second guess was indeed. If you've solved it, you'd know what I mean. Wordle 1,343 3/6 ⬜⬜⬜🟨🟩 🟩🟩🟩⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

There was only one word I could think of that matched the first guess pattern. Consulting the word finder, I discovered that's all there was. There will never be an easier solve until the day my starter word comes up, and I solve in 1! Wordle 1,342 2/6 ⬜🟨🟩🟩⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

As my Bluesky (and previously Twitter) bio says, "Seeking non-simplistic solutions to complex problems" - and Sue Barrett explains how the simplistic narrative can screw things up in the longer term. We have to challenge the simplistic. open.substack.com/pub/suebarre...

I didn't consult the word finder after 2 guesses, but surely my 3rd guess was the only possibility. The 1st 4 letters were locked in. So quite a freaky 2nd guess after just about the most unhelpful 1st guess return. Wordle 1,341 3/6 ⬜⬜🟨⬜⬜ 🟩⬜🟩🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

A slightly tricky one. Consulted the word finder after 3 guesses and found only 3 possible matches. The word chosen was both the most likely, and ensured I would definitely solve in 5. Wordle 1,340 4/6 ⬜⬜⬜⬜🟩 🟨⬜🟨⬜🟩 ⬜🟨🟨⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

I could think of 3 common words that fit the pattern after 1 guess, so I chose the one that gave clues to both the others and - bingo! Wordle 1,339 2/6 🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Running out of possibilities (as you would expect, with 3 correct letters, and a lot of wrong ones). There were still 4 possible words for the 5th guess though. But the correct one looked most likely: Wordle 1,338 5/6 ⬜⬜🟩⬜🟩 ⬜⬜🟩⬜🟩 🟩⬜🟩⬜🟩 🟩⬜🟩⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

With ruthless egotists running powerful countries, the intellectual argument is losing ground, and the future of the world hangs in the balance: www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/share/20180/...

A poor strategy in hindsight. If I had done an exploratory guess after the 2nd one I should have definitely solved in 4, rather than having to suffer with a 5. Wordle 1,337 5/6 ⬜🟩⬜🟨⬜ 🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Sarah Hanson-Young said it well: "It's [Rupert] Murdoch, Gina Rinehart and Peter Dutton versus the national interest, the global interest, and everyday Australians." www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/share/20184/...

Australia's Department of Employment and Workplace Relations hid the scale of IT system bugs from governments and welfare advocates - apparently to protect provider profits. Numerous people have died after their welfare payments were incorrectly cut off. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/share/20185/...

It looked dire after 2 guesses, but don't underestimate the value in such a process of elimination. A nice solve in 4, in the end. Wordle 1,336 4/6 🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜⬜⬜⬜🟨 ⬜🟩🟩⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

An odd but easy one; only 7 possible words after 2 guesses, and none screamed at me. The one I chose was the only one that spoke to me in more than a whisper: Wordle 1,335 3/6 ⬜🟨🟨⬜⬜ 🟨🟨🟨⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Political parties in Australia are barely mentioned in the Constitution despite having dominated parliament since Federation. Yet they are declining in importance, with minority governments more common, and independent MPs more influential: theconversation.com/splits-fusio...

It’s true. Still, the Labor Primary Vote in Victoria is polling 22%. Votes are shifting heavily towards Independents (who haven’t even begun campaigning!) The mood for change is rising. Who’s your local independent? www.communityindependentsproject.org/ci-mps-candi...

Got there eventually. Wordle 1,334 5/6 ⬜🟨🟨⬜⬜ ⬜🟩🟨⬜⬜ 🟨🟩🟨🟨⬜ 🟩🟩🟨🟩⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Another solid 2nd guess, another solved in 3! They now lead solved in 4 181 to 179 - helped along by the fact it took me 5 to solve yesterday's. Wordle 1,333 3/6 ⬜🟨⬜🟨🟩 🟨⬜🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Zuckerberg and Musk practically run the Internet between them, yet they (along with many wannabe bros) are nobbled by feelings of total inadequacy. As a result, the whole world has to suffer: open.substack.com/pub/aliensid...

Australia needs to be self reliant. The US needs to be considered similarly to China in terms of trading partners. open.substack.com/pub/johnquig...

We need to remember that political parties are not an integral part of the Australian parliament. We can form governments without them. Independents don't need to align with parties in parliament for it to function, even if it's convenient to guarantee supply. open.substack.com/pub/tdunlop/...

Well, that's a relief. Today's was one I was never going to solve in 3. Even after getting 4 greens from the 4th guess with a load of excluded letters, it wasn't clear what it could be. Wordle 1,332 5/6 ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜⬜🟩⬜⬜ ⬜⬜🟩🟨⬜ 🟩🟩🟩⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

The allies defeated Hitler in no small part cos so many brilliant people fled Europe for the US. Fascist dictatorships inevitably create brain drains. Trump has just slashed funds for medical research. The best & brightest will leave. We should invite them here. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Unlike yesterday, the 2nd guess (my go-to after a blank slate 1st guess) was hugely helpful to solving in 3. And for the first time in ages, my solved-in-3 is beating my solved-in-4 (180 to 179)! Wordle 1,331 3/6 ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜⬜🟨🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Ooo this is a good one ☺️

Trump and RFK's war against science won't just affect science research in the US. It will impact around the world, including Australia - due to direct funding, reduction of collaboration, reduction of US research to leverage, and quality of US research: www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/share/20129/...

Don't let the pattern make you think it was a clever 2nd guess. That 3rd guess was a total fluke: Wordle 1,330 3/6 🟨⬜⬜⬜🟨 ⬜⬜🟨🟩⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Latin America has been beaten around by America's 'big stick' for more than a century. Can they find a way to fight back now that Donald Trump is wielding it and demanding they accept deportees and hand over the Panama Canal? www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlT6...
