Two judicial reviews for the DART+ West project linking Dublin city centre and Maynooth and the M3 Parkway have been withdrawn, paving the way for work to begin on the project next year

“We’re on it”? What do you mean “we’re on it”? DRILLING FOR OIL ISN’T SOMETHING THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY DOES. EVER. WHAT ARE WE DOING. *throws things*

Basically, if the Administration thinks that the US is protected because it produces most of the oil that it consumes, they are missing some important energy economics context.

🚨 🚨BREAKING: High Court judge to quash @deptinfra A5 road plans following judicial review citing climate and environmental concerns

They paved paradise, Put up a parking lot. Paradise said: That hurt, but let me tell you about geologic time

I get annoyed at the narrative that all the awareness and work on climate change hasn't done anything. Yes, global CO₂ emissions indeed continue to climb, but we don't know the counterfactual. When I was in grad school, we were on track for 5°C of warming. Now it's below 3°C. That's progress.

It should be a scandal that the Chairman of the ESRI - an organisation which our government relies on for independent policy research and evidence - feels comfortable enough to make an explicitly partisan (and ideologically revealing) statement like this in a feature interview:

'The university has informed staff of plans to cut 400 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions by July 2026, with academics the first to go.' Professor Andy Schofield, VC at Lancaster University since 2020, will take up position of Principal & VC at Glasgow University on 1 October 2025.

Solar + storage is now $104 per MWh in Las Vegas or similar regions for nearly 100% clean firm power. There is no way new nuclear can compete with this. Even new gas plants will struggle and that is assuming access to cheap gas over the life-cycle of the plant, which is kind of a crazy gamble TBH.

"Batteries play a crucial role in balancing, but must work alongside other renewables like wind, hydro, geothermal, as well as interconnectors and flexible demand" New @ember-energy.org report highlights how solar + batteries can bring down energy transition costs: ember-energy.org/latest-insig...

Every country is warming. Every country is experiencing more extreme weather events because of climate change, mainly caused by burning fossil fuels. www.ShowYourStripes.info Time to #ShowYourStripes and start climate conversations to prompt actions to reduce emissions, personally & collectively.

I was consulted, a while ago, on whether a clock that counted down the estimated carbon budget for 1.5°C would be a good idea. I asked them what they planned to do when it went past zero? I did not get an answer, and they didn’t ask me anything again. 🤷

I can hear the complaints now. "But what if I've got a full bottle of speed and need to drive straight across the country without sleeping?!!! Do you want me to have to stop twice on my trip?!!" For the rest of us, I imagine it is a small # who have done 1200 in one stretch. Should be enough.

I love living in a country where "just go sit in a 1000 year old church!" is actually a perfectly reasonable bit of advice.

Lady's Island lake is the end result of decades of agricultural nitrogen water pollution. The only way we can turn the agricultural nitrogen pollution problem around is if those in power admit that their measures aren't working. It's time to actually listen to the evidence, not the spin.

New @wwattribution.bsky.social rapid analysis shows that the current heatwave probably wouldn't have qualified as a heatwave without a boost from all that fossil fuel pollution - www.worldweatherattribution.org/climate-chan...

I just saw a good example of what I was talking about with chatgpt being a crackpot generating machine. A guy had started Wheeler's Spacetime Physics, and had a problem on page 2. Wheeler expressed a square root as a power of 1/2. √a = a^1/2. This is basic algebra, not physics.

Look people, no matter how much we destroy the Earth by polluting it with CO₂, microplastics, PFAS, etc. everywhere, and even if AMOC shuts down and both the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets melt, the Earth will still be infinitely more habitable than Mars. Mars is a shithole and we're not going.

This is a pretty interesting hypothesis for why the Earth is absorbing more solar radiation. Contraction of the World's Storm‐Cloud Zones the Primary Contributor to the 21st Century Increase in the Earth's Sunlight Absorption - Tselioudis - 2025 agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...

Is the UK hot right now? YES - it's hot! Live temperature updates hour by hour, every day. istheukhotrightnow.com

Heatwave in the UK. OK, I grew up in Italy, and when it is very hot and you have no air-conditioning, you do this - 1) Unless there's a good breeze, CLOSE all the windows and draw all the blinds and curtains until sunset. The outside air is hot, you do not want it inside with you. 2) DRINK WATER

⚠️ The amount of CO2 the world can emit and still have a good chance of staying within 1.5°C of global warming is 130 billion tonnes. This would be exhausted in a little more than three years if emissions remain at current levels. 🧵⬇️

It is shocking that 22 years after the US, UK and Australia went to war in Iraq based on the WMD lies, we see mainstream media headlines today running Trump's Iran "weeks away" from a nuclear weapon claim without explicitly framing it as directly contradicted by his own intelligence community

“I tend to be an optimistic person. But things are not only moving in the wrong direction, we’re seeing some unprecedented changes and acceleration of the heating of the Earth & sea level rise.” - @piersforster.bsky.social, @priestleycentre.bsky.social #ClimateCrisis

Earth could breach 1.5C warming limit in as little as three years at current levels of carbon dioxide emissions, say scientists: www.bbc.com/news/article...

Good job Norwich. “A fleet of battery-powered buses is being credited with bringing air quality in a city within legal limits”

Woah! Such an important study published in Nature today! Quick thread with some of their key figures! 🧵

Global sea levels rising twice as fast as they did last century, according to major scientific report

Say goodbye to 1.5°C. But remember, the next target is 1.51°C and not 2°C. We need to keep fighting. Every tonne of CO₂ emitted makes the job of future CO₂ removal harder, and every 0.01°C of temperature increase makes the world more chaotic and dangerous.

Our new paper updating key metrics in the IPCC is now out, and the news is grim: ⬆️ Human induced warming now at 1.36C ⬆️ Rate of warming now 0.27C / decade ⬆️ Sharp increase in Earth's energy imbalance ⬇️ Remaining 1.5C carbon budget only 130 GtCO2 essd.copernicus.org/...

One thing that's psychologically fascinating about Bluesky is in the absence of an algorithm you're quite sincerely thrown into a wild west marketplace of ideas and have to survive on, uh... merit. A lot of journalists are finding their ideas aren't popular. Rather, they are just well paid.

In non-WW3 news, new paper alert! Or what I did on my Norwegian sabbatical. Humid heat trends in Europe: Pretty bad! But unlike Southeast US, temperature increases (in part driven by fewer clouds) are the main cause, not dewpoint increases. rmets.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
