Or, even more cynically "we're absolutely fine with Russia doing that for as long as possible".

Russia has nukes, Iran doesn't which makes them fair game. This is a) exactly why Iran wants them, and b) further incentive for every nation on Earth to acquire them if they have the capacity to do so.

It doesn't just seem wrong, it's objectively an abomination.

Speaking from the UK, the idea that judges are appointed on the basis of their political leanings seems a) insane, and b) terrifying.

"Rogue" would imply that they're defying orders.

Bespoke: the Norfolk four course crop rotation system was responsible for the industrial revolution.

Apologies, the figures quoted are in fact specifically for Israeli Jews, but the point stands - support is in favour of what is currently happening.
comment in response to post
To be clear, that's nearly half in support of total extermination. Bear in mind also that something like 20% of the Israeli population are Palestinian. The same poll found 82% support for expelling the population Gaza.

Sadly, I must beg to differ on that point: www.middleeasteye.net/news/majorit...

He can only keep out of jail on corruption charges as long as he can stay in power. He can only stay in power as long as Israel is at war. The "war" in Gaza is just straightforward mass execution and at this point even his own security apparatus is getting squeamish, so he had to start a new one.

Hugely entertaining that his security advisors clearly had to explain radar as "sky trackers" and now he thinks that's the actual term.

My cat's often the same, and you've misunderstood: she absolutely wants the belly rubs, but *also* to claw your hand to shreds. That makes it more fun (apparently).

Fun fact - per unit area the UK actually experiences more tornadoes than almost anywhere in the world, but they are so weak that they go almost entirely unnoticed.

Once, while at a cafe in Italy, a waitress dropped a tray of glasses. My friends and I instinctively raised the customary ironic cheer only to realise we were surrounded by complete silence. Must have seemed like total arseholes.

CBeebies has just put together a load of parenting resources and advice for parents of young children, and while it mostly comes a few years too late for me, it is a fine and wonderful thing. www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/par...

Didn't some chief constable suggest flagging down a passing bus for assistance if they felt threatened by a police officer?

Counterpoint - the UK government's first priority is to look after UK commercial interests, not to interfere in the US' internal politics. It looks like Starmer's managed to get some small but significant gains in return for basically nothing.

"You're putting a child in front of soldiers" said as if it's an irresponsible act, and therefore with the implicit assumption that those soldiers are likely to kill children.
comment in response to post
Not gonna lie, that *does* sound like fun.

Thanks for that link - a really fascinating read. I knew there was some of this sort of thing, but the industrial scale (and the fact that it went on so long) is quite shocking.

Those things aren't mutually exclusive.

Small, but fairly important point - Iran has threatened those countries' bases only IF they become directly involved in the conflict. But then you knew that already. www.timesofisrael.com/iran-threate...

Well, we spent the last century and a bit laying the foundations for pretty much every aspect of the current crisis, but yes I take your point.

Am no expert, but a quick look suggests that the *best* DNA tests for family relationship rate have a false negative rate of 1 in 2,000 so if you did this with a million kids you'd wrongly separate 500 children from their parents. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

To be fair, so would an English person.

Yeah, seems broadly correct to me. Also, the WWII "how to behave in Britain" movie it mentions is genuinely a fascinating watch, and can be found on Youtube. It's fronted by Burgess Meredith who went on to play the Penguin to Adam West's Batman.
