For Trump it might be an idea to increase pressure on Russia to realise a step down of Putin. That might end the war faster (and might bring a longer lasting peace) than putting pressure on Zelensky to step down. And might be the only chance left to dream about a Nobel price. #Ukraine

Here I react to the shameful encounter between American leaders and media and the Ukrainian president. No doubt there were more, but I saw five failures on our side: of hospitality, decency, democracy, strategy, and independence. Please watch and share. snyder.substack.com/p/five-failu...

As Europeans we have been flooded with messages about the high quality leadership of American politicians in fe the Senate and the House of Representatives. Nowadays I have to conclude that high quality leadership is located in Europe.

What worries me more is what secrets does Trump already handed over to the Russians and how much more is he planning to give away in the future?

I have decided to cancel my show at The Kennedy Center on May 11, 2025 and move it to The Anthem.

An excellent summary by @mcfaulmike.bsky.social of the ‘extortion deal in the making’. The USA is ripping apart a country that is literally fighting to survive. Appalling and disgusting.

At this very moment the real European leader seems to live in Kyiv. Zelensky Pushes Back Against U.S. Mineral Deal and Announces European Summit www.nytimes.com/2025/02/23/w...

The questions is: wil Trump’s America activate article 5 when Ukraine is attacked by Russia (even when Zelenskyy is gone)? You know the answer….

This is ridiculous and should not be accepted by Ukraine. Especially when there is no security guarantee. And if there would be: who would believe a security guarantee of Putin and Trump? Also in the eyes of Europe this wouldn’t be acceptable at all. This is 21st century extortion.

This is the best summary of the current geopolitical situation I have seen. Sir Alex Younger (head of MI6 from 2014-2020) is a genuine expert and provides concise insight into a complex situation. Not just some talking head with an opinion. Really worth watching. www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9pL...

I can not imagine that the Ukraine would be happy with such a deal let alone the EU. This would be another blow to the EU-American and the EU-Ukraine relationship. @eppgroup.bsky.social @ajboekestijn.bsky.social @robdewijk.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/w...

Amazing to see how a trillion dollar Facebook really thinks. Knowing they've been hostile to governments and the free press in Australia and Canada, not surprised to see how they ultimately approached stolen copyrighted material.

It's time to call it. AI is built on a house of cards of intellectual property violations starting with Facebook which is starting to look a lot like a crime scene as held back discovery documents begin to be compelled and unsealed in court. /1

What’s new. For years, nobody takes the remarks and statements of Lavrov seriously. Nobody.

Brexit apparently means paying tariffs on the complimentary copies of your own book 😵‍💫 But hardcopies of "The Survival of International Organizations" should arrive before the weekend ▶️ Free online Open Access version (no custom duties applied) here: academic.oup.com/book/59488

Instead of ending the war ‘within 24 hours’ it seems more like switching to supporting war criminals within 24 hours after the start of the negotiations. @wartranslated.bsky.social

Euhm, not long ago Vance compared Trump with Hitler….

Een hele mooie boodschap van het CDA! @cda.nl @henri.cda.nl

When even the president of an ally is believing Russian narratives spread via channels such as Twitter then it is time we start thinking about closing down X in Europe.

So then the suggestion of the USA is to work on reducing defense spending to (far) below 2% ? 😎 @hcss.bsky.social @robdewijk.bsky.social www.defensedaily.com/trump-floats...

This is a key sentence in this article in Le Monde that not everybody seems or wants to understand … ‘Enfin, réindustrialiser ne consiste pas à reconquérir pierre par pierre ce qui a été délocalisé, mais à placer l’innovation au centre de la réflexion.’. #Trade #EU www.lemonde.fr/idees/articl...

Check out this community note👌🔥

Tariffs drive inflation and hit workers the hardest. It's not good business. Because we need to protect our workers and preserve our interests, unjustified tariffs on the EU will not go unanswered. Of course, we are ready to find agreements that work for all.

In short: Inappropriate, misinformed, pro-Putin, Musk-supporter, doesn’t know nor care about fascist danger, interfering in EU domestic politics, doesn’t care about Russian threat, supporter of desinformation, putting EU-US relationship on the line, and so and so forth m.youtube.com/watch?v=I04x...

www.tagesschau.de/ausland/euro... Absolutely happy with the clear and excellent statement of Pistorius. Together with van der Leyen these German politicians show leadership in the EU @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu @eppgroup.bsky.social

Let’s face it: the international policy of Trump is based on extortion. You can name it deals, smart deals but basically it is extortion. Good to see Ukraine doesn’t sign this proposal. The Ukraine & EU should be part of the negotiations @eppgroup.bsky.social @robdewijk.bsky.social

It is time to strengthen the European pillar within NATO. That means the additional EU military spending should be targeted to replace US capacities in the EU in the shortest possible time. The additional budget should be spent in the EU. A common foreign policy in line EU trade policy is needed

It is time to strengthen the European pillar within NATO. That means the additional EU military spending should be targeted to be able to replace US European capacities in the shortest possible time. The additional budget should be spend with European companies. @eppgroup.bsky.social #NATO

It is absolutely impressive how our friends in the US are able to appoint this group of people who think they ‘make America first’ but are rapidly undermining the relevance of the US in the world (and as a result paving the way for their geopolitical ‘challengers’) @rpsagainsttrump.bsky.social

The DOGE-approach is the same as the way of working of the tech-industry in new markets; create facts in the market while knowing states need time to react. Before they do, the facts on the ground are (nearly) irreversible. A basic approach. @anneapplebaum.bsky.social

Might be an idea suggested by his wealthy IT-friends Musk & co …

On this moment in history we might start to realise the EU in close cooperation with Canada, the UK and several southern BRIC-members could take the lead in the saving, continuation and housing of the organisations supporting rules based system in the world. @eppgroup.bsky.social @hcss.bsky.social

Ursula van der Leyen @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu stated that “we will always protect our own interests — however and whenever that is needed.” That is the correct approach 👊 www.nytimes.com/2025/02/07/w...
