I work in a public research neuroscience lab, and my boss is hopeful that we won't see our funding cut, but with Neuralink being a thing I'm skeptical we won't see the ax, too.

If you meet residency reqs and you're paying taxes, I see no issue in voting in local elections. Maybe state elections. Also, it's legal. There is no federal law against it. We used to allow it at the federal level, too, iirc.
comment in response to post
It used to be legal. Non-citizens used to be allowed to vote in elections if they met residency reqs, and there is no federal law that says they can't vote in state or local elections. These elections are local. They live there, they pay taxes, so they should be allowed to participate 🤷‍♂️

Clearly, *the* Jeffrey Epstein is still alive and well, and collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the federal government to maintain his silence. That's the only logical explanation! /s

It is pointless. You made accusations that there were criminal acts occurring but pointed to "Sesame Street" style programming being funded and said, "It's not criminal, but it is." You're falling in line with a man who claims to be auditing payments but isn't using auditors to determine that.

Your* goalpost
comment in response to post
So, it's not criminal... but also criminal? Trying to build infrastructure is now criminal? I'm done talking to you because you're goalpost moving is beyond help.
comment in response to post
You realize that isn't criminal, right? And you're criticizing a public education tv show? You're falling right in line with attacks on public good. Have a day.

The fact that there was even an audit, what?? Name one forensic auditor he has employed. Meanwhile, we've *had* forensic auditors look into these departments and... nothing.
comment in response to post
What audit? He only has programmers on his payroll. Where are his auditors? If he's auditing, why doesn't he have auditors? Why did USAid pass an audit in December? They're lying to you and you're letting them.

Just come out and say it, Mr. Walsh. This administration is breaking the law and when the courts slap them down, they kick, scream, and lie that it's unconstitutional.

He's already calling for that judge to be impeached, like the whinger he is. Who ensures his team destroyed the data and how do they do that?

It's a soft power aid org through the US gov, specifically the State Dept, my guy. We can disagree on what it spends its money on, but its budget is set by Congress, not by the administration. If you're gonna argue facts, at least know them.
comment in response to post
So now they're subscriptions and not contracts? Subscriptions need to be made public? Does the SEC need to disclose its Bloomberg Terminal subscriptions, too? I love how you're now defending him getting USAid contracts after trying to "gotcha" me by asking for proof he received them.

And yet, they're still there. Your argument does nothing to refute the fact that gov contracts (USAid being one of them) are why Elon kept his purchased businesses afloat. Stick to the argument at hand.

They're literally in court over multiple EOs. Why are you all like this? It's been a week and a half, what were you expecting? That his entire agenda would've been ripped up?
comment in response to post
Can you show us the data on that? Cuz that's a big statement to make when we know it's still cheaper to produce overseas and pay the tariff since they'll just push the cost to consumers.

My feeling is that it's not indoors to spend time on the question of whether he should be hired given his complete lack of military education and experience leading this many people.

I never said kick people out. I pointed to part of WHY housing is so expensive and said ban using it as a commodity/investment. At what point are we all just renting because nothing is for sale? Again, you are making this into something so much more.
comment in response to post
Okay, buddy, keep being mad. I simply pointed out that 1/3 of available homes are held by people who aren't living in them, which in turn drives up cost. 40M homes available for purchase would drive prices down significantly. That's it. You're making this into something so much more.
comment in response to post
Im literally not acting like that's not an insane thing. There are laws to prevent that from happening "overnight", for one, but there could also be laws to transition those homes to the renters, if they wanted to buy. *You're* acting like I'm wanting to throw renters out overnight.
comment in response to post
Yea, I do concede that my point certainly isn't the only problem we're facing with housing prices. This should be an "also".
comment in response to post
I have no problem with building more housing. I'm not a NIMBY. Repeal single family zoning laws, too. Housing is definitely expensive for more than just my reason, but we can't pretend artificially driving up the cost with investment firms and landlords owning homes is doing any favors.
comment in response to post
I fail to see how housing being used as an investment, which in turn causes a housing crisis and jacks up prices, is a bad take. Especially when it's verifiable, lol.
comment in response to post
I'm not sure what part of "40M homes not being up for sale bc they're owned by people who don't live in them drives up housing costs" you don't get
comment in response to post
What do you think happens to the housing market when upwards of 40M homes are listed for sale? Do you think they stay at the exorbitant prices they're currently at? Or do you think they depreciate to an affordable value bc of supplt?
comment in response to post
Did I say vacant? I said not on the market, ie for sale. You can't afford a home because people buy up homes as investment rather than to live in them, and that drives prices up.
comment in response to post
That is EXACTLY why they're not on the market. They're not listed for sale because they're owned by people who *do not live in them*.
comment in response to post
"Owner-occupied housing units made up 58.9 percent of total housing units, while renter-occupied units made up 30.9 percent of the inventory." Straight from the census report, but if you can provide other verified evidence, I'm open to reading it.
comment in response to post
Homes are expensive because ~1/3 of them are not owner-occupied. That's ~40M homes off the market. Ban corporations/investment firms from buying them and tax the shit out people who own multiple residential homes. www.census.gov/housing/hvs/...

I can only assume. I would imagine they have to redact stuff, so maybe that's what's going on.

There's a reason he said if Kamala wins, he's going to prison. It wasn't because she's an authoritarian, it's because he's a fucking traitor. Of all the immigrants they wanna denaturalize and deport, this dude isn't even on the list. Shameful.

I'd email my House rep to support you, but Ms. Omar is my rep so I already know you have her vote. You worked your ass off for this, and we need you to be on top of this incoming Teapot Dome 2.0.

They'll run checks, just not until they're in office and they have people in position to order a scaled down background check. Then they can claim they did them and found that they're exemplary.

Not only did my conservative dad not control what I read, but he didn't control what I listened to. He may not have enjoyed the music I liked but he didn't keep me from listening to it. He did semi-control what I watched, but usually, he didn't give a shit.

What would be the benefit of staying on a platform that promotes misinformation and is overrun by the alt right and bots? Especially when your argument is to "work together" but people don't listen to those who actually know what they're talking about.
