This. Falling for disinformation isn't necessarily due to a lack of critical thinking, and definitely isn't a sign of low intelligence. It deliberately feeds into primal instincts, which everyone has. Comprehensive research skills and the ability to counteract biases isn't something widely taught.

As someone who once lived in a homeless shelter for the longest 2 months of my life, the reality I’ve seen is that there is very little expeditious help for the displaced. What help exists is generally gated by perpetually full waitlists. Many simply give up.

This is what it means when you hear someone babble about "woke". They just don't want to see "otherness" anymore. They never did. "Woke" straight, white, abled people have a target on their back as well. They don't follow the programming, thus are a threat. Any glitch is seen as a problem. Good.
