Ahead of its season 2 premiere tomorrow: a look back at what makes “Andor” not just special, but vital—as a series about the mechanics of fascism—and why you should watch it even if you’re unfamiliar with Star Wars. www.inverse.com/entertainmen...

I've been thinking about this for weeks

Heartbreaking, evil shit.

🌻 Hello again #Solarpunk friends! 🌻 I found a brilliant video by @fromtheperiphery.com featuring @pheebz.bsky.social that discusses Solarpunk storytelling. I like this discussion in particular because of the conversation around stories that can bring Solarpunk from fiction to reality.

“Remember this: The imperial need for control is so desperate because it’s so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort; it breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.”

it's important this go as viral as the original story for morale purposes if nothing else. despite the image they project these people are NOT unaccountable. consequences CAN be forced. focused anger and outrage MATTERS.

Y'all, I've achieved one of my writer dreams. Almanac for the Anthropocene was a staff pick at Powell's!

My favorite book of 2025 so far!! I can't stop thinking of this book!

Scenes at Harvard Square right now: community leaders in solidarity with Harvard faculty call out federal overreach for what it is: an attack on academic freedom — and democracy itself.

In the @newyorker.com, Julia Angwin and @amifieldsmeyer.bsky.social have a powerful essay that everyone should read today. They researched global protest movements and talked with global dissidents. They write about what to expect, what works, & how to win. www.newyorker.com/news/the-wee...

Keep the faith. Take action. Be honest about risk. Be prudent (with words, acquaintances, and technology). @juliaangwin.com and @amifieldsmeyer.bsky.social distill the wisdom of elders and of the ages into a primer for The Opposition™️ Your weekend #mustread

Ringing this bell again: Someone You Can Build A Nest In is an ace book about the love story between two ace leads. The book is many other things, but it is profoundly an ace book.

Finland almost coal-free four years ahead of schedule. Coal power has dropped to less than 1% of its energy mix. Wind energy has more than doubled since 2020, now supplying 25% of the country's electricity while reducing consumer priceshttps://buff.ly/MOTqcuf #ShareGoodNewsToo

Sometimes it feels like my whole career has been a chain of gatherings where UK & US academics trade stories of the particular kinds of stress & grief & short-sightedness that shadow our work. I want better for all of us.

Following up on this. They just banned a Canadian trans musician from getting a visa to tour the US. They're straight up banning trans people from entering the US. www.stereogum.com/2303977/bell...

Friday reminder that subs are OPEN for our next issue "Black Isekai" 👊🏿 Don't self reject. We can't wait to see your work!

if we're going to save SF from people like Elon Musk we also need to rethink the genre's class biases. Classic SF is filled with fantasies of the professional class, stories where geniuses and experts create more rational, technocratic, and meritocratic worlds in spite of the unintelligent masses.

Also I hope we're all on this same page EVERYONE needs to be brought out of that El Salvadorian hell hole they were ALL wrongfully deported. I mean it's good to focus on 'And this guy was here legally and not ever a gang member AND they're Venezuelan' but NO ONE should've been sent there

Yes this. Plus: Swears!

Me in my very conservative, very Christian gym: is that a patriotic shirt or a hate group logo?

I'm editing an issue of @thedeadlands.com and subs are now open! Please do send me things. Plus! I will be one of the Guests of Honour at @flightsoffoundry.bsky.social this year, along with Sheree Renée Thomas and Anna Martino. #Flights2025 will be in September. vajra.me/2025/04/02/d...

We are in an age of guerilla archiving. We are all going to have to do the work of preserving history & culture on a micro-basis. I’ve deliberately focused on Black joy so you’ll find adventure and fantasy more than you’ll find overcoming and stoic resilience. Get the list 👇🏾👇🏾 tinyurl.com/2m9bx2jb

Elon Musk: pours tens of millions into a race that has never seen even a fraction of that much money. bribes multiple voters with $1 million checks to vote. offers any Wisconsin voter who proves they voted $50. wears a fucking cheesehead Wisconsin: votes against his candidate by historic margins

Cory Booker is on the Senate floor explaining the plot of Battlestar Galactica.

"You cannot buy the Revolution. You cannot make the Revolution. You can only be the Revolution." I've seen this Le Guin quote a lot but had forgotten the full speech it came from. And of course it's a banger. theanarchistlibrary.org/library/shev...

When you look at the list of institutions they want to defund: libraries, museums, the Smithsonian, public schools, PBS, NPR, archives, you can clearly see that the real threat to an authoritarian regime is an informed and educated public

I feel like the buzz around starter packs has died down a little but these remain one of Bluesky’s greatest contributions to social media and also stealing my attention away from the writing I should be doing

The rush for renewable energy minerals has a dark side—environmental harm & human rights abuses. Clean energy’s path must be smarter & more responsible. A Quick thread from our new mining series 🧵... #Mining #Renewables #EV #Solar #Batteries #Climate

The point is to intimidate people. To scare them into compliance and silence. And to broadcast the “power” of the dictator over even the rule of law. Its shock value and glaring wrong-ness is the point.

“Disappeared” is how Argentines and Chileans talk about the citizens kidnapped by military regimes of 80s and 90s. Today Mexicans use it to refer to those who vanish in the cartel war. “Disappear” is a verb, noun & adj: When ppl are disappeared, they become los desaparecidos—the disappeared

Fellow writers and editors, I have this cool project I'd loved to see shared. My student researcher and I put together a climate fiction worldbuilding "manual" consolidating some ideas on what the U.S. might experience and look like over the next hundred years using, primarily, government data.
