In the 1930s, when Ethiopia was ravaged by Italy, it appealed to the world to insist that all be held to international law, not might makes right. They were abandoned. Later, Western powers were shocked at Germany doing to Czechs & Poles what they had let Italy do to Ethiopians.

Definitely watching this next week.

“Stay angry, little Meg,” Mrs. Whatsit whispered. “You will need all your anger now.” Madeleine L’Engle might have been the first person to teach me that my anger was a superpower.

Hey everyone, it's the last day to vote on the Nebulas! DAYDREAMER is up for Andrew Norton and (i think) Best Novel. Please, show some love, SFWA voters! My whole heart is in this book.

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.

Please enjoy my last ever post at Climate.gov/ENSO Blog. This afternoon I was fired by the Trump Administration 15 days before my 2yr probationary period ended on March 13. I have worked at NOAA since 2010, and I'm so incredibly proud of the work I did. If anyone wants a quote, let me know.

This is legit the reason I taught about apocalypse for seven weeks in my environmental literature course. Trying to undermine this idea as much as possible from a storytelling perspective.

I had the privilege of talking to @apnews.com about WIRED's Elon Musk and politics coverage. Most important thing: We're not slowing down, we're not stopping, and we're going to cover this story, relentlessly, for as long as we need to. apnews.com/article/elon...

Hopelessness is an important element of Neo-Liberalism.

I’d love to stop doomscrolling every single day. Focus on my books, on my work. The proposed Medicaid cuts (and so many other things) have me in such a spiral. That’s what pays for our disabled kiddo’s services at school. Call your reps. www.aclu.org/news/disabil...

Massive encroachment by Bezos into The Washington Post’s opinion section - makes clear dissenting views will not be published I still have not felt encroachment on my journalism on the news side, but if Bezos tries interfering with the news side I will be quitting immediately and letting you know

Today seems like a good time to remind folks that under authoritarian regimes of the past, poets were so feared they were exiled (Pablo Neruda, for instance). Poetry has power and used to be the voice of the people.

I was thinking about this contrast. Feels like some sort of scifi dystopia where everyone has to buy their citizenship.

Started the Andor rewatch in preparation for season 2. Always something new to pick up on.

Based on a series of conversations last week, I'm surprised at how many people don't realize the extent of the damage that the current US administration is causing globally. Of course we are all primarily concerned with issues in front of us but this mess will take years to undo around the world.
