None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.

No movement is without fringe elements which opponents cherry pick and misrepresent, it's important to not bend when they. Absent big gains, cede nothing.

Also, the key is a sustained blackout. Buy just the essentials for a prolonged period of time and shop local.
The people who went on strike against Pullman for higher wages were encouraged not to. Almost everyone thought he had so much money that he could easily outwait the men.
All it took was a handful of switchmen near Chicago to disabuse them of that idea.
