One thing that has never been clear to me is this: What is the statutory basis they will use for the reciprocal tariffs?

“Those nasty Canadians are ripping us off and are controlled by Mexican cartels. They’re poisoning us with fentanyl and need to become the 51st state or they will pay a high price” is a belief that literally ZERO Americans had six weeks ago. It’s entirely invented from scratch.

“My staff have come across these ads on social media, and as far as we are aware, these are legitimate offers and are extremely concerning,” said Rep Zoe Lofgren, ranking member of the House Science Space Tech Committee. Full deetz in @politico China Watcher bit.ly/3DacCBs

One thing to keep in mind with Trump's tariffs is that he (and many other people in Washington!) genuinely believe that US trade deficits mean other countries are cheating and trade deals have been unfair to US. They are wrong but they genuinely believe it. And that leads to bad US trade policy.

What I want to know is where did this Chinese kid get all his money from to finance his lavish and expensive lifestyle. His dad apparently works for an SOE and his mother is a teacher... hardly jobs that would earn them this kind of money. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Honestly, I am sickened that Kurt Campbell is using his considerable experience to promote a repressive govt that is imprisoning pro-democracy activists. There can't be better relations with the Hong Kong gov until political prisoners are released. Anything less is a sell out.

The State Dept under former Dep. Sec of State Kurt Campbell's guidance spent 4 yrs stigmatizing Hong Kong as too risky for U.S. biz and investors. Now he's back in the private sector shilling it as a "key intl biz hub" 🤨 linkedin.com/posts/americ... @samuelbickett.bsky.social

Per Dr Atul Gawande, ex USAID: “All malaria supplies protecting 53 million people, mostly children, including bed nets, diagnostics, preventive drugs, and treatments – terminated.” There are no words that sufficiently describe this level of cruelty and sadism.
