Catkins showing both male and female flowers- also seen hawthorn flowers, a brimstone butterfly and heard a song thrush giving his all at dawn today (in direct competition with a wren) - spring is here 💚

I saw my first butterfly, this year, today - a male brimstone fluttering too fast to get a photo. This shot is from a couple of years ago just incase you don’t know what a Brimstone 🦋 looks like.

It’s so lovely to wake up to a song thrush serenading the day - I can also hear a vociferous wren and a few mallards. 💚

What are these beautiful red fungi called please. I’ve got something like Elves Cups in my brain but sounds a bit iffy 🤔 Would like Common and Latin name if you have it - many thanks 😊

Yup!

On Friday, a whole mountain west of Glengarriff was burnt, with a wall of flames visible through the night for miles around. It's pure ecocide, layered on top of ecocide (sheep), and it just beggars belief that this is still going on in the year 2025.

🎉Fantastic news - green light for wild beavers in the UK! Our beaver family in an enclosure at the Nene Wetlands arrived 2 weeks ago, the love and support from the public has been huge. See the latest footage www.wildlifebcn.org/beavers - and look out for them on BBC 6 O'clock news later today!

How lovely

Go beavers! How exciting. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

This will be worth seeing - we saw Dominie twice last year and she is amazing 🤩

Welcome to my cattle ranch. Photo by Chris Almeida 🖤

The snowdrops don’t mind this endless rain - sigh - come on Spring “hurry up” 🤣

@rru.bsky.social this is an absolute bible - love it so much - also dipping back into it 💚💚💚

This will be amazing ❤️

Grey tailend of February, immeasurably brightened by the sudden appearance of Iris reticulata 'Frozen Planet'.

Hey! I just called on the UK government to scrap anti-protest laws which attack our hard won democratic freedoms. Please can you defend the right to protest too by signing the petition?

Butterfly fact 11. Males emerge before females to find the best mates in a phenomenon known as protrandry. Brimstone males are seen first in spring because they are active at slightly lower temperatures, females wake up a few days later. Read more in ‘Butterflies:’ from @chiffchat.bsky.social

Reintroducing wolves to the Highlands could store 1m tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, study shows - because predation & ‘landscape of fear’ effects of wolves on deer would allow natural regeneration of trees: www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Great news

Throwback to Sept tour ✨🌙 live in #Lancaster

🧵 1/2 The fishing Wren - who knew? I'm playing in slomo so it's easier to see what's going on. In fact the Wren is catching amphipods (happy to be corrected on species). This shows the value of a weedy pond & providing access to it by placing branches over the surface. @bto-gbw.bsky.social

My Son Oliver is 6’ 5” 🌳👀

@humbugandtoby.bsky.social hello - good to find you here on Blue Sky - I’m rapidly losing reasons to visit the other place now 🤣

Happy Birthday to our brilliant RSPB Ambassador @deborahmeaden.bsky.social! 💚 Your passion for the environment makes a real difference; thank you for being a champion for nature.

A “Flore Pleno” of double flowered Snowdrops amongst Winter Aconite and leaf litter. #WildflowerHour

Tee hee this is brilliant. And this week Shropshire WT introduced beavers to Shrewsbury again 💚

Slightly boastful but I did love my supper tonight. 10 plant foods thrown together for minimal washing up and served on quinoa- yum. My carnivore partner smothered it in red hot chilli sauce and declared it delicious so that’s a win too🤣 #plantbased #healthyeating

At 60 degrees north, Shetland winters can feel long. There is such joy as the sun slowly returns and you can feel the promise of spring #Shetland

Through recording this Little Egret with the ringing scheme I discovered that it was leg ringed as a nestling in 2014, has been re sighted 19 times the last sighting being 2 years ago in 2023. It’s exciting to find this bird - I love citizen science. Zoom in to read the leg rings 💚

If you get a chance to see Mikey do go - his gigs are amazing. We saw him last year and it was one of the highlights of my year 💚🎻
