I saw the nonsensical Mail on Sunday front page. Wait until the Tories find out who passed the Act that the Tories are upset about

I doubt Hoyles would get involved from the start. It would be the Speakers Office who would deal with this first.

My MP worked hard for me to help deal with a problem we were having. He knew I did not vote for him (or would do in the future) but he was professional and I told him how I appreciated his attempts to help us. There are many good hard-working MPs but they all get tarred with the same brush

As a rule, MPs do not like being brought to the attention of the Speaker's Office so if an MP does not respond the threat itself is usually sufficient. If you feel your MP has not dealt with you then tell them that you will be raising your case with the Speakers Office.

You would communicate with the Speaker's Office. The rules are laid down in Parliament if an MP does not properly represent his constituents as that is what he has been elected to do. The Speaker is in charge of MPs so you need to write ti him regardless of what you may think of him.

Anytime you think your MP is not doing his job the Speaker is the person to contact.

Then you write to the Speaker outlining how your MP has not responded or helped. The Speaker can then order your MP to help or he will discipline the MP for not carrying out his duty.

Because my wife is a foreigner my sons are not truly British. They only have ‘British heritage’ according to the bigots.

My favourite still is a Trump voter making a personal plea to him to try and stop the deportation of his Venezuelan wife.

True but Tory strategists are still under the delusion they can still bring the lost Reform voters back into the Tory fold.

This is more an attempt to consolidate the base and try to hang on to what they’ve got first.

I’m rereading Ian Kershaw’s biography of Hitler and this notion of superior cultures is a dangerous one because how should we treat cultures which we define as inferior?

We have the contradiction of the right who say
a) immigrants refuse to embrace the U.K. and integrate fully into UK culture
and
b) You can never be considered truly British even if you do the above

My eldest son who is British but after 5 years in Switzerland now fully identifies as Swiss and is immensely proud of being Swiss. My wife who became a British citizen fully identified as British and was cheering the England team in the football. FWIW my eldest son supported Switzerland in EC

Best line is probably to say Trump has a point about over dependence on the States for security and then set up their own separate European military alliance

We have to be more forensic on the people who say this. We know who they mean but would they mean they would also ban turbans or Jewish Orthodox dress? Are Jewish people who celebrate Hanukah seen as not integrating? Hindus who celebrate the festival of lights?
comment in response to

I know from personal experience it is possible to
a) integrate
and
b) continue to celebrate their own culture
My wife managed this successfully as have millions of other immigrants

Remember it’s not freedom of speech they are complaining about. They are complaining about people challenging and criticising their views. They consider freedom of speech to say anything they like without being being forced to defend their views in any way

There has been much made in the last few weeks that he’s playing some kind of 3d chess and it’s all some clever strategy but we need to accept that Trump is an authoritarian who cares little for people or their rights. I know this. You know this but many think he’s just playing games. He isn’t.

What Lewis is saying is that other politicians have to stop pretending that what they are saying they will do isn’t really what they are going to do. When he says we have to listen to them we actually have to listen to them because there is no underlying bluff or strategy.
