Not even The Onion could have thought of this.

I remember in the late 80s several plants being on the NRC Watchlist. All five TVA reactors were shutdown for years due to poor performance.
At that time there were still a lot of utility people who viewed nuclear as just boiling water like coal plants.
NRC was important in changing performance .

Wonder what the dose rate is where the worker is sitting.

Looks like the only stopping me from building a nuclear reactor in my backyard will be the HOA.

Wonder if they tried to do that today if they would need to have cooling towers.
Would be very curious to know if they had built them how they would have worked out.

Hallam. Big Rock Point. Hopefully not all nuclear sites you visit are shut down. 🙂

This morning I watched Day of the Jackal and now I want to read the Fredrick Forsyth books. Day of the Jackal, Odessa File, Fourth Protocol, etc.

Would HR allow something like this today?

One January many years ago went Starved Rock State Park in IL for a dog sled demonstration. It was cancelled due to flooding.
At least I could see the bald eagles at the nearby lock and dam.

Imagine what could happen at the Treasury Department if they search for “equity.”

How much value was added in those 13 years versus a 1 or 2 year period?
Reminds me of California high speed rail.

The original intention was good and noble. I think they lost their way and got into minutiae that did not provide value.
Remember reading an environmental report for Fermi-3 that had a section dealing with indigenous farming in Detroit.

Probably coincidence but another country shut down nuclear and now has really high g CO2/kwh. Could this be a lesson for Spain?

One of the most profound things I heard at a previous job was if we don’t waste the money someone else will. Sad, but I would rather see the money wasted at Hanford then at another agency. Would like to see it used for nuclear research or curing cancer but it would be wasted somewhere.

You mean to tell us that it wasn’t the NRC’s fault that Vogtle and Summer didn’t have complete designs before starting construction?

I hope it doesn’t happen but if we gain another state that would add 40 million people and have a huge impact on congressional districts and electoral outcomes.

One lesson the NSSS suppliers ( GE, Westinghouse , etc.)learned in the 1960s was bigger was more economical. Curious what economic law changed where smaller makes more sense.

Was listening to a podcast with a person from ARPA and he said something like “warriors don’t win wars. Logistics wins wars.”

Biden commuted the death row to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Interesting how the information or misinformation is used.

Remember when I graduated college in 1987 first place I worked I just had a connection to a mainframe. No email. Was able to get so much more work done then at the end of my career using all the latest technology.

Thanks for tracking and. My concern when they specify advanced nuclear is a very litigious group could tie up a lot of time and money arguing over what “significant improvements“ means.

I find it interesting that 60 years ago they realized that to be economically viable they needed larger units.
I had never heard of this reactor before. So glad Nick is making these gems available to the masses.
