This seems true, but they are almost always very good at arguing regardless. Rhetorically It's kinda sound, but it doesn't mesh well with reality. It's pretty infuriating.

Different person. This guy is almost certainly too misanthropic to not be in a relatively transactional marriage.
Though, I should mention for the ladies out there: he's rich enough to never have to work again and single if you're interested and have a high tolerance for smug condescension.

Compared to the dismantling of parts of the federal government, weaponizing many of the other parts, and general gutting of the country's international stature and trust of its allies, the absolute pettiness of "Gulf of America" is a quaint throwback to the early part of Trump's first term.

I'm not even sure, at this point, which of his biases he honestly holds and which he would deny. I don't know if there's an event, a moral Rubicon, that Trump could pass that he couldn't forgive. All in all, it's getting hard to be his friend because he thinks he's morally above the fray.

He also seems to buy the right-wing fears of immigration wholesale, to the point that he said if he were German he'd be voting AfD. I mentioned that it was, um, "a bad look", and he responded that he knows that and would still feel compelled to support them given the alternative.

He did think it would be funny if I gloated over my friends working at the CDC over possibly losing their jobs. I had to explain that I like my friends and don't want to lose them.

Entirely possible. The strong men made and believed in things like effective government and vaccines because they saw the world without it and wanted to avoid that, the weak men thing that they can have all the upside without the effort or expense. Total failure of chesterton's fence.

It feels like he started that way, then discovered that heelish things were what a lot of Republicans actually wanted and they made him president, much to his surprise. Then right wing media just normalized it. At this point he's just winging it and denying he can do any wrong as a defensive move.

The enshitification is certainly in progress, but the "almost everyone on Earth got a Facebook account between 2008 and 2020" situation means that (I figure) it'll have to get PROFOUNDLY bad for substantial abandonment to occur, unlike X/Twitter, which is both simpler and easier to abandon.

Slightly better self-moderation tools to improve the user experience will probably happen way before most of my asks. But it's still at best a work in progress, and I'm sorry you have to deal with that.

In time, perhaps. It makes sense that they will focus on their strengths of "better twitter" before they branch into "partial facebook".

I suppose the next thing after that would be some way to organize feeds into folders or some useful hierarchy, but that's just QoL stuff, the rest of it gets me to where I can probably jettison facebook without losing much. Maybe the ability to share list ownership/management responsibilities.

It would help a TON if bluesky allowed private lists. Absolutely the feature I want the most.

I too think that is the case. At least filtering them out is pretty easy. I do wish there was a more straightforward to have a high-priority-queue of people I know personally. I think I could do that with a list, but not sure.

Amicus is the main one , but also 5-4 and the court focused bits of NPR Politics, Stay Tuned with Preet Bharara, and Know Your Enemy. I'll check those out!

They're both describing the outcome of a sociological phenomenon, but from different frames of reference and more importantly for different parts of the outcome. Involuntary Celibacy implies the existence exclusionary boning.

I don't usually make them, but I was inspired by a recent youtube video (youtu.be/ArlKtVtgcSM) . It took me about six hours before I kinda gave up and declared it done.

I feel the best way to re-interpret it in your head is: How well do you think you can deal with this particular pain, where the low end of the scale is 'trivially' and the top end of the scale 'totally unable'. That way you can safely ignore the endless top sector of "how bad could a thing hurt"
