i’ll keep this in mind as she’s probably sitting in the Situation Room with Trump discussing Iran right now (or soon, because something very serious seems to be happening).

I read Trump is urging residents of Tehran to “immediately evacuate.” This seems oddly specific. Makes me wonder if Bibi told Trump he’s planning to use a tactical nuclear weapon. If Israel crosses that line, I shudder to think of what it means for global security. No going back.

Hmph. Slightly better odds than the flip of a coin. Still not reassuring.

Did you see this about the Craigslist ad for seat fillers
on Saturday? Those who got the free tickets tonight were suckered - they’re paying $1k in crypto to come to the parademom Saturday (though it might rain).

The stance of the Church as a key member of civil society has often been important in helping move authoritarian regimes toward democracy. Regardless of how far along the authoritarian path you believe the US to be, the new bishop’s invitation is important.

I sorta feel like the whole administration is a foreign invader.

Well, in being on the other side of the country, to hear Newsom declaim the slide to authoritarianism was pretty darn refreshing (ha, as if hearing this is happening can in any conceivable way be “refreshing”).

I wonder if it’s possible to sue for false “detainment” & the associated trauma of being held at gunpoint. The ACLU should create a team of pro bono attorneys to stand up for these people (& no doubt, many we haven’t heard about) & go after the government for its flagrant disregard of rights.

Note that the memorandum also gives Hegseth the authority to mobilize troops “in any number determined appropriate in his discretion.” As re Newsom, it would appear he becomes irrelevant if he fails to cooperate. If I were Newsom, I’d want to think carefully about my next steps, too.

2/And worse: “In addition, the Secy of Defense may employ any other members of the regular Armed Forces as necessary to augment & support the protection of Federal functions & property in any number determined appropriate in his discretion.
* Hegseth is given the authority to deploy the military.

1/From Trump: “I direct…the Secy of Defense to coordinate with the Governors of the States & the National Guard Bureau in identifying & ordering into Federal service the appropriate members & units of the National Guard….”
* “States”??
* What happens if Newsom refuses to cooperate?

I can’t imagine Trump is not in the Epstein files, but how the hell would Elon know? Was Trump sharing secrets with his erstwhile buddy? Did Elon have access to something hacked? Elon has now backed away from open confrontation so we’ll probably never know, like the 2016 claim of kompromat on Trump.

Yes, the boys are fighting and that’s drawing peoples’ attention, but this OBB Bill must not pass. Thanks, Senator, for keeping your focus on what’s important.

Interesting when you compare this rant (all caps, poor punctuation) with what he supposedly wrote about Putin. Take a look. I’d bet he wrote this, but that someone else wrote the post in which he called Putin CRAZY (the only weird caps in it, as I recall).

Recent news stories have focused on the problems posed by the NWS’ inadequate staffing in the face of the upcoming hurricane season. Sadly, the destruction and loss of life in Kentucky make clear that
DOGE’s cut have had more immediate, deadly consequences.

If the distribution of scarce products occurs like that, I’m afraid it will make the less densely populated areas more resentful of urban areas. This would probably not lessen the red-blue divide, and thus might not help Democrats fare better in rural areas in the mid-terms.

If the politicos are turning a blind eye to what you’ve identified as CECOT’s mass graves, other groups, like NGOs, are likely to be interested.
