New York Times article now up on Federal Register stuff. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/s... 1/n

The National Science Foundation fired all its experts. The National Science Foundation. Fired. All of its. Experts. And they weren't even told to! The leadership worked toward the Fuhrer and went beyond the cuts demanded of them in anticipation of many, many more firings—up to *half* its staff.

A new @reuters.com poll finds Americans have a dim view of many of the Trump administration's blizzard of executive actions, including the Jan. 6 pardons and his effort to limit birthright citizenship. But they *really* don't like the Gulf of America thing. www.reuters.com/world/us/ame...

I’ll keep pushing this line of analysis because I’m increasingly convinced the clearest path out of this mess is for Dems to adopt a relentless anti-corruption, anti-inequality, anti-oligarchy, pro-democracy platform. The Dem leadership hasn’t realized it yet, but they’re now a reform party.

The #GOP is the party of death.

I'm a huge fan of Dolly Parton. We're the same age and same height, but she can sing better. We also share the same values, including that every child should have the chance to dream big and succeed. Indiana Republicans should reverse these cuts. www.huffpost.com/entry/indian...

🚨NEW: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is planning to fire Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff C.Q. Brown, a 4-Star General and 41-year veteran of the Air Force who flew over 130 hours in combat as a fighter pilot. REPOST if you stand with General C.Q. Brown against Hegseth!

Republicans just shot down my amendment to ensure we don’t cut Medicaid and kick millions of seniors off of their healthcare.

Once upon a time, these were actions by a private company. Now they are actions being undertaken by a high-ranking government official, in connection with his public activities. This raises 1A issues that didn’t exist before.

I used this metaphor when talking to a reporter: they are swinging a chainsaw through government services, with no investigation of the performance of people they are firing, or the value of services they are eliminating. Why would the unelected richest man in the world care about the damage?

Murphy: "There's no separation between the Kremlin & the White House right now. The White House is a full-time Kremlin propaganda operation..there's a real probability American troops are going to have fight abroad to protect the global world order & our allies & perhaps American sovereignty itself"

Wow, finally happened: The average wholesale price for a dozen large white eggs has now broken $8, per USDA.

Marco Rubio chose Riyadh over Johannesburg this week. In my latest @goodauth.bsky.social piece, I discuss why Rubio snubbed the G20, the racial undertones of Rubio's criticism, and why this does not bode well for the U.S. in the long term. goodauthority.org/news/marco-r...

I don't think the Dems can stop the firings. But why aren't they proposing legislation that assures those that took the buyout get paid , and that all that are fired, get at least a year severance and health benefits? And any one with a health condition is covered the entire time they are sick?

NEW: Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion, according to ProPublica’s first-of-its-kind analysis, which found the sepsis rate for women hospitalized as they miscarried in the 2nd trimester shot up by more than 50%. https://propub.li/43487Tj

Peep this excellent resource on #impoundment! It tracks the Administration’s actions, Congressional and legal responses, and impacts of the Administration’s actions. 1/

The CDC has an ultra-competitive 2-year program to train "the best of the best" to lead public health labs. Most of the current class were terminated over the weekend. www.science.org/content/arti... (by @meredithwadman.bsky.social)

Oh, look. The House GOP Budget reflects all the evil cuts to Medicaid they said they'd do in Project 2025. Maybe take them literally and seriously.

BREAKING: USAID contractors/aid recipients say Secretary Rubio and USAID leader Peter Marocco should be held in civil contempt for violating a court order to lift spending freeze.

"Protecting the civil rights of students was central to the Education Department’s founding in 1979."

This is a concentration camp. They are describing a concentration camp.

“Hitler systematically disabled and then dismantled his country’s democratic structures and processes in less than two months’ time—specifically, one month, three weeks, two days, eight hours, and 40 minutes,” Timothy W. Ryback writes in a step-by-step account:

Blumenthal: "What world is he living in? It is not only contrary to the facts and the truth but utterly despicable. A disgusting betrayal of a country that has bled and fought and died for freedom ... the president's surrender is pathetic and weak."

It appears irony is not dead after all.

A lot of locals were very surprised to get the notice from the senior center that they just lost a huge chunk of their meals on wheels funding. As this shit starts hitting people closer to home it’s going to be pretty radicalizing! I had a lot of raging grannies (complimentary) blowing up my phone.

This is the energy we need.

Fwiw I have heard that NIH funding is still paused in spite of court orders, at least to some extent. People seem confused, which seems like the point.

DOGE in practice: Disabled Army veteran who has 4 kids and did 3 tours overseas is fired from his job at Bronx VA hospital

Deadly storms and widespread flooding in Kentucky killed 12 people. Gov. Andy Beshear says it will take a long time to recover and the state will need federal help.

Isn't the natural next question "so should he give up his federal contracts?" Very weird that this is never asked. If the CEO of Raytheon got put in charge of DOGE you'd probably ask that.

Republicans consider cuts and work requirements for Medicaid, jeopardizing care for millions. apnews.com/article/medi...

Hundreds of asylum seekers from around the globe are being trapped by the US in a Panama hotel where they'll eventually be sent to a camp in the jungle. One Chinese man said “I thought: America is a free country with respect for human rights. I had no idea it was like a dictatorship.”

NY City Council speaker Adrienne Adams: "With the resignation of deputy mayors, it has become clear that Mayor Adams has now lost the confidence and trust of his own staff, his colleagues in government, and New Yorkers. He now must prioritize New York City and New Yorkers, step aside and resign."

Here’s what we are reading today: The U.S. seeks to control not only Kyiv's rare earth minerals, but also ports and infrastructure, oil, gas and 50% of mining revenues. The plan demands a higher share of Ukraine’s GDP than Germany’s WW1 reparations.
