That’s Ent-ertainment.

Seriously terrible recent events have dictated a complete rewatch of Deep Space 9 and breaking out the telecaster.

A *better* world was possible..

This hits at the old heart strings.

This person is responsible for the x-ray spectrometer *and* airborne LIDAR topographic mapping. If you didn't know, now you know. I'm putting respect on the name of Dr Alcorn. I'm embarrassed I didn't know about this legend, but I'm working on that.

Space heritage! Each item, were humans to occupy the moon, would need to be preserved and conserved, a kind of open museum / international park? Thankfully we have space archeologists to ask!

Friends, I have written you a book on forensic metascience. It is free. You can have it. Happy St. Valentine's Day. If you wish to give me a gift back, you can use it to cause trouble - the greatest gift of all. open.substack.com/pub/jamescla...

You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant.

Some fake follower networks put in at least some effort to make their mass-produced accounts appear authentic. Others, like this new Bluesky fake follower network, just create a bunch of accounts with default avatars and call it a day.

Birds. Just taking a moment to be grateful for birds. And dips. Everyone loves dips. Dips and birds. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I'm going to celebrate my own achievement as a woman in STEM! I was the first woman ever elected to the Council of the Space Industry Association of Australia. I have some stories for sure ..... but I also had great colleagues 🧪 #WomenInSTEM #InternationalDayOfWomenAndGirlsInScience

Overlooked, and even derided, the work of Dr Barbra McClintock is foundational in genetics. At one point she even had to stop publishing. I wonder how much more the entire field could have progressed had she not met so much resistance. She did receive numerous awards, including the Nobel (83).

Some might say the *other* Meitner effect is doing the research, getting there first, and then watching a man repeat you and get showered in your rightful accolades. #WomenInSTEM

My go-to is Dr Lise Meitner. She did foundational research in electron spectroscopy that now bears Augers name. This is a wrong we can correct, she was a prolific scientist of great importance.

Incredibly cool study by my labmate and good friend @zewaldj.bsky.social 🦜 Flavouring behaviour is incredibly rare in animals, and there is almost no data on it! www.theguardian.com/environment/...

This is a room where we turn very modest salaries and budgets (and lots of coffee) into new knowledge, life-saving innovations, and technology that feeds business growth. It's literally the loom that spins hay into gold but these numpties are suddenly worried about the cost of hay.

The history of Australian women in science 🧪 #WomenInSTEM #InternationalDayOfWomenAndGirlsInScience

the “administrative state” in practice is a lot of very hard working, practically anonymous people doing the thankless work of making this country run and a drug-addled dipshit is slandering them in order to steal our money for himself

Professor James Reason passed away a few days ago. The Reason model - often known as the Swiss cheese model - of accidents revolutionised aviation safety and risk management practices, as it did for many other fields. Vale.

What’s the loss of a few million lives when proving a point takes priority? I was once a child refugee, surviving on USAID rations—without them, my family would have perished. I will never understand the deep-seated cruelty some people carry in their hearts.

Rip City!

Enjoy a minute of absolutely next level whimsy.

The Bureau of Meteorology confirms Australia recorded its hottest spring and second-hottest winter on record in 2024 -- Australia's second-hottest year on record. What it does not say is that as we continue to burn more fossil fuel, it will get hotter every year of our lives.

Go. Birds. Not a big NFL fan usually but this is the team that should win it.

Imagine if your city did urban transformations like this. The 18th arrondissement of Paris, before and after, 2020 to 2024. Think about how that neighbourhood would feel after this change. How YOUR neighbourhood would feel. It can be. Just takes vision & leadership. HT @emmanuelspv.bsky.social

Someone, somewhere, has the opportunity hire of a lifetime. I'm now trying to figure out if I still know anyone at Atlassian.

As someone trained as a trade economist, it is my duty to share the 1929-1933 Kindleberger Spiral, showing the month-month decline in global trade due to the combined factors of the (global) Great Depression and retaliatory tariffs. Smooth Hawley is implemented mid-June 1930.
