The Thwaites Eastern Ice Shelf, which partially broke off into the ocean, is now riddled with deep cracks and crevasses near the grounding line. It is more near total collapse than never (by 2026, according Erin Pettit, the american glaciologist of Oregon State University in a study from 2021).
