Bravo to @faeriviera.bsky.social & the rest of the incredible cast (reply w/your handles; I'd list them myself but I don't know anyone else's! Much like Ricky Gervais, I will not be asked to host again)! If any of you still microblog over in bird hell, you can find me @AudMcMacca. Until next time!

We need a federal judge to put an immediate stop on all EOs to discuss their legality and overreach. If there isn't such a process, invent one. Just preparing for midterms in 2 years is an abdication of duty; I just want to hear that *someone* is working on a plan for *now*.

is there some kind of law preventing us from just having people swear to tell the truth before standing before our elected officials?

@.@ why the hell not @.@

Isn't this Perjury? Isn't that a felony? Is anyone going to bring a charge? Isn't it also against federal law to suborn perjury? Why on earth do we not use the law to ensure the law works at all?

they can't erase our identity, but they can a certainly make living it as difficult as possible. What's going on with your legal challenges? Is *anything* happening?
comment in response to post
Instead of wringing your hands and saying, "When will the nonsense end! This isn't how it works!" Just see what's happening, accept it, and then step the fuck up and *fix it*.

When do we finally say, enough: independent courts must vet the text of any executive order that does not solely pertain to the deployment of military abroad or in response to natural disasters within our borders. I'm not a lawyer, I'm talking out my ass, but there has got to be *something*!

Who is going to just sue the President on the grounds that legislation from the desk is unconstitutional under separation of powers and finally just cut off the fucking tide we're drowning under?

The last four messages on @lambdalegal.bsky.social's website are about how they "vow quick action". What on earth is *happening?* Where are the updates? What has been filed and where? What are the grounds? What sections are you accepting as lost causes?
comment in response to post
There's more coming every day. The guy writes more executive orders specifically targeting trans people than JK Rowling writes tweets. The plan is to absolutely bury y'all in EOs, and some of them will slip by without challenge while you triage.

i mean, what say you, @legaleagle.bsky.social? I know norms don't matter and liberal lawyers and judges will hesitate to do or say anything that actually slows or stops the rot, but, like, why?
comment in response to post
the article doesn't say that's happening, it says a cyberpunk dystopian novelist thought that would be possible with electronic price signs and facial rec, which may be in use. The takeaway i have from the article is that companies need to get more comfortable with raising wages and hiring people.

I love you for this essay. I needed it, after the Rubicon video -- it was very good, but that script felt aimed for liberals still unwilling to do anything more than vote, and complain that Kamila lost because dems didn't hate trans people enough. Garbage is all that's going in the machine.
comment in response to post
Note that I'm *not* angry at you, Ian, you've very much been trying to explain what you're seeing in pretty obvious clarity for a long time, but it does really grate when people choose their rubicon almost a decade after it's well and truly crossed.
comment in response to post
So no. The US crossed the Rubicon a while ago, and everyone who isn't willing to admit it, unwilling to see it and say it out loud, is failing us. My family have bug out bags and are prepared to run, because I don't trust that cis straight white "allies" will actually do anything to fight for us.

The only challenge anyone has said anything about is the one about birthright citizenship, but ICE is on the ground in *Chicago* and there's no pushback from people within government positions. They're all just... well, following orders.

It's been a week. The SSA and State Department are taking people's valid documents away. Info about gender marker changes have been removed from their websites, and they're asking people to snitch on co-workers that so much as whisper the word "diversity". No injunction.
comment in response to post
Instead, people comply in advance. A friend of mine said, in his legal opinion, the anti-trans xo wouldn't take effect for 30 days and we'd see an injunction from the lower courts within a day or so.

Since 2016, my priority has been to protect the people I love and not allow myself to disappear the way they'd love for me to. it doesn't feel like anyone gives enough of a shit to actually stop anything, no matter how much they know it's wrong, just because a piece of paper tells them to do it.
comment in response to post
I'd love to fight. Where is the resistance? who do I join? they're already rounding up immigrants of color and taking papers from trans folks. Is everyone else just waiting for their turn before they'll do anything?

Some of us have acknowledged the racist, fascist, religio-ethno supremacist domestic terrorist group taking over our government since Trayvon Martin, since Pulse in Orlando, since the tiki torches and chanting, since a person fully supported by actual nazis was made president. It's been blatant.

I'd been seriously considering it since Bezos decided to cave on the nom article in WaPo, but was doing the teetering over "no ethical consumption under capitalism" etc, but I just can't take this.

Yeah, this is my last straw. We're out too.

Finally it's kinda hard to ignore the conflict of interest in buying meta stock and then writing a bill to suppress one of its competitors in an emerging social media space. Not trying to tinfoil hat, but it just feels to me like security isn't their problem with tt. popular.info/p/these-lawm...

unless Google is doing something very wrong, this seems fine. And given the actual ownership of Bytedance (global publicly traded, 3/5 board members are American, data stores in Oracle data centers) and Tiktok (private, HQs in Singapore and US, not available in China)... It just feels rotten.
comment in response to post
I just don't see a problem here. It's also weird that that poster talks about tracking users across apps, when... yeah, that feels like a scary way of saying it uses Google's advId, but all play apps get that. If you want to turn that off you literally need to use a deGoogled android distro.
comment in response to post
It has asked me about accessing contacts to find friends that might be on tiktok, which i said no to. It hasn't bugged me about the other two, but I'm guessing there's a feature somewhere I could use that would need them.
comment in response to post
Idk what Tiktok looked like when it was new, but these are the permissions it has on my phone today.

If Bash truly believes what he's saying, he should have demanded his kids remove the app long ago, and should have used a burner or virt to run it for his interview prep. I'm guessing he doesn't, but our legislators *do* have a conflict of interest in removing competition to Instagram for Zuck.
comment in response to post
Google approves apps that go in the play store for their access usage. Ask an appsec expert what Tiktok could even *possibly* be getting, and then you'll have something more concrete than FUD.
