Going forward, I am going to try and always remember the paradox of tolerance. If we are tolerant of intolerance, it will enable the eventual dominance of intolerance. It will hurt and be hard, but if you sit at the table with nazis, you are also a nazi. Dont obey, dont cooperate, dont tolerate.

Current writer wisdom is "start with a strong hook" and I get that, but a lot of the books I've been reading take that as 'drop the reader in an emotional or high stakes scene with no context I have no connection to these characters... Am I alone in disliking this? #writers
