I like 3:2 ratio, but depending on the subject wide angle can feel too wide at times. But for me the depth and perspective of the 26 and the constraints of a square frame make for a potent combination.

I like the distant feel. Within reason. Open space is a dominant feature of the desert, along with the sun, and the sense of distance and the atmospheric perspective that goes with it gets that across in a way that works for me here.

In July 2010 I spent a day in Newport,Oregon with my daughter. I was playing with an Agfa Silette 1 camera with Kodak chromogenic b/w film that my ex had found at a yard sale for 2 bucks. I did a short-lived blog back then with it called 'Adventures With a Two Dollar Camera'. ...

My normal lens on the phone is roughly 28 equivalent (actually 26) and for me it works well here in the open spaces. The ultrawide (13) is too wide so I never use it. I can see where you might struggle with it there in the forests though.

Oh I don't know - I disagree with that. I like a lot of his hard edged stuff. I like a lot of the are-bure-bokeh work of the Provoke movement in Japan. To me it's rough but real.
