The "1.2 m illegal immigrants" number - (from @pewresearch.org - has been seized on by Reform, unchallenged by BBC/media. It's a lie. 1. It *includes* large number of people *with leave to remain" - here legally. 2. It *includes* children born here 3. It's upper limit of 800K-1.2m range

for context here’s a map of greater Los Angeles and the protest is the roughly the red circle

‘If the problem that this country simply isn’t white enough, someone may as well just come out and say it. Because it’s clear the issue here isn’t Britishness.’ www.independent.co.uk/voices/immig...

Baked smoked cod for breakfast - delicious

As @lewisgoodall.com pointed out there is the possibility of a Trump Musk reconciliation and of course he is right. The relative quiet on the main front probably supports a truce. But equally and as likely this truce will collapse and an on off struggle will continue as we see with tariffs etc…

Yes proofs done so it’s a thing. It will see you all in September…

www.theguardian.com/environment/... This is one of two vastly under reported challenges with the AI bubble. It can work marvels but 1 it’s energy cost and environmental impact is horrendous and therefore & 2 it requires open access to data which is either very expensive or stolen…

"He cited the example of how the council was deploying AI chatbots to help older people stay on top of their medicines" Really? That's why we're doing all this? Caring for older people is a good job for a human - government should plan for more of these www.theguardian.com/environment/...

One for historians. A piece of genius.😂

As absolutely no one is saying - wow didn’t see that coming. What will be of interest is whether Thiel and the valley tech bros throw Musk under a bus in their struggle with Bannon and the nativists. Or do they see that the Nativists and Trump himself are no longer a secure investment…

this is like drake and kendrick lamar but they're both drake

If you need a breather from all this bullshit, here's a photo of Earth. From Saturn. We're that slightly brighter star at centre right.

In amongst all the excitement I fear many have missed this outstanding bit of trolling by Friedrich Merz. The Chancellor gifted Trump a gilded framed copy of his grandfather’s German birth certificate... reminding Americans that Trump is both the child and grandchild of migrants.

Curtis Yarvin's big ideological self-explainer is written in a style that presupposes he's about to blow your mind here by suggesting that, like, actually, *the British Empire might have been cynically self-interested in World War One*!? A presumed audience who've never had a critical thought ever.

If someone who once met Peter Thiel says something that echoes Carl Schmitt it doesn’t mean he’s a political philosopher - it was probably all an accident and that person remains an idiot

MacIntyre's critique of liberalism was important. It also highlights the flaw of all post-liberal thinking: by freeing people from pre-determined social roles you weaken morality. In fact, it's the opposite: you make it social; free from state and the church. observer.co.uk/news/opinion...

The people she is talking to forced a university to flee to Vienna because they don’t like its Jewish founder. At least Beatrice and Sidney Webb could write.

Trump hates his new nickname TACO so out of respect we made this song! 🌮 🕺🎶

Repost if you agree

This seems to have hit a sweet spot

Alasdair MacIntyre RIP. John Haldane quotes Bernard Williams on the contrast between him, MacIntyre and Charles Taylor: "Taylor and MacIntyre are Catholic, and I am not; Taylor and I are liberals, and MacIntyre is not; MacIntyre and I are pessimists, and Taylor is not (not really)."
