Lack of insurance decreases vaccination rates. When fewer people get vaccinated population risks increase.

Male applicants? Maybe next we'll regress to separate women's Ivies. Or maybe "finishing schools" will have a rebirth.

What does Ukraine get? I'm confused.

Purging women, too.

Also, it appears Americans aren't in a buying mood judging by the consumer discretionary index. I wonder why?

I wonder how all those who complied in advance are feeling about now?

If this is true, what's the purpose of Trump's offer?

Biggest? He's busy denigrating the groups that serve. I suspect the current recruitment problems are going to get much worse.

If true, they need to speak out immediately. Public needs to understand how critical they are.

Many of us have been begging for this for weeks. We need daily press briefings by best communicators (like Pete Buttigieg) focusing on threats to democracy, $ cuts and impact, agencies decimated w/ implications for country, all the hurt.

Honestly, I don't know anyone who's doing any "discretionary" spending these days. Quite an undercurrent of fear--politcally and financially.

Have felt local press and personal experiences would play a key role. At some pt the hurt will become so great that people will stop reacting to trans athlete and evil immigrant nonsense. Hoping for lots more

Wow! Sounds like getting a second opinion (or even a first) from anyone outside your community will involve costly travel. This will affect everyone on Medicare

He will, and he'll be mayor while he does (until he loses the election).

Lawrence O'Donnell has explained repeatedly that Hochul cannot fire Adams. All she can do is set in motion a completely untested process that could take years to play out legally. Please watch segments from last two nights

Behind a paywall. Does Cowen deal with charter schools? I've always wondered about the role they played in getting us to where we are today.

Aside from the Pentagon, maybe even more true outside of DC. In general, need more attention to the impact of cuts on smaller federal offices/outposts, where even small percentage cuts nationally can have devastating local effects.

Then the "many" should change the policy or resign.

Doesn't sound like they've even cut a deal. They've ceded their power to Trump. Maybe boycott press briefings?
comment in response to

If no one covered the daily briefings AP would probably get its slot back. Instead, the press gives the Admin all the power.

Dems seems to be doing little because they believe people will blame Trump for job losses, price increases, service cuts. The problem is Trump will blame Biden and many will believe him. Press will "both sides" it.

"..may be cutting into the Country's..ability to identify emerging diseases.." When does that become IS? When we've got another raging pandemic? He IS suppressing info and he IS firing staff which DOES leave us blindsided.

Ah, the great myth of welcoming immigrants. This is the same country that imprisoned Japanese and refused to allow desperate Jews to enter--in the mid 20th C.

My grandmother and I got the sugar cube together. It was an amazing moment. She had lived through the 1918 pandemic in Philadelphia as a teen (Philly was hard hit) and never forgot scenes of death.

NM cases reported in contiguous county went from 3 to 8.

Absolutely agree. I would love to see people start to pay attention to how we got here--decades of states slowly, and then more rapidly, abrogating their responsibility to support public higher education. But that isn't what's happening here.

The decline in state $ and the shifting of costs to private sector (students, parents, other sources where available) is an issue for all public institutions, R1 or not. It has received little public attention except to portray the victims (students) as unwilling to work hard to pay off loans.

Daily briefings, please. We need updates on threats to democracy, speech; cuts/freezes and impacts on govt functioning, families, communities, states (how we're being hurt). Change is happening fast!

Anything "might be."

Please hold a daily press briefing. Stress both threats to democracy and the immense hurt that the Admin is causing.

The original OMB freeze list singled out Special Ed programs. I don't think "transition" is the rationale.

I refuse to believe they atr stupid can't contact them. Supervisors have phone numbers. Everything leads back to the same NBC article w/out attribution. Another excuse for foot dragging?

We also need to document everything (cuts, firings, speech infringements, etc. effects on families, communities and states,) and a national daily press conference on the multiplying injustices led by a respected figure.
comment in response to
post
Every one of these cuts and its implications (hurt) needs to be documented. We need a daily press conference--ideally by Dems but, if they won't step up, by another source--highlighting the people affected--kids, parents, students, communities, poor, sick, disabled, etc.--and the extent. Now!
comment in response to

Many have been arguing for this for the last 2 weeks. We need to pressure the Dems to do it (with a spokesperson like Pete Buttigieg) and an agenda focused on the Admin effects on jobs, services, speech, etc. Enough making fun of Musk.
