Great article on cuetlaxochitl, including how it got the name "Poinsettia", Spanish co-opting of it for Christmas traditions, and the modern horticultural industry. (by the Drs. Ellstrand -- my wonderful grad advisor Norm and his son Nathan!) time.com/7202847/poin...

There has been...interest...in my NYT essay about industrial agriculture. I've seen a lot of thoughtful commentary, not all of it about the depth of my evil. Thanks! Here's a gift link, then a quick thread responding to the most common critiques. 1 www.nytimes.com/2024/12/13/o...

What the world really needs is a vibe shift. Most people who don’t farm don’t think much about agriculture, & we’ve fallen into a trap of assuming there’s virtuous agriculture and evil agriculture. But we farm because we need to eat. Let’s use biotech and other tech to make less of a mess.

www.nytimes.com/2024/12/13/o... Don’t agree with everything, but it’s a really interesting read.

Judge blocks rule that eased U.S. reviews of biotech crops Some plant researchers fear the setback could last years and will stifle innovation. (From Science) #PlantScience www.science.org/content/arti...

#Bananas are cool. 👍🍌 Nice article from the New York Times in the below post, and if you're interested in the Banana's links to history, politics, colonization - but also banana science, plant breeding, plant monocultures, and #Fusarium wilt disease - have a look at this book: 👇
