Rubio terminated 5800 USAID contracts – more than 90% of its foreign aid programs – in defiance of the courts. Here’s a list of just some of the lifesaving awards that were terminated. Nearly all were Congressionally mandated. They’ve saved millions of lives. 🧵

today has been one of those harder-even-than-usual days of witness to relentless destruction, so finding this review of my Hélène was lovely. in Sept 2017, I was in the middle of an intense transition back to the northwest. not terribly surprising that I missed. www.bmorrison.com/helene-by-de...

This is the way.

A few minutes ago, King County Budget Director Dwight Dively told the county council that some promised federal dollars continue to come in as expected, including a $50M grant to the climate office last week. But the technical infrastructure to deliver other promised funds is "just...gone."

other than that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?

Yesi sent us a picture of the vineyards that were recently pruned near Merced CA. Workers start their day at 6am in the cold and fog only to finsh by 4pm. They work 5 days a week mostly. #WeFeedYou

It’s hard to fathom how devastating this will be… At 6:00 pm, the House votes on a budget that guts Medicaid —ripping healthcare from low-income families, sick kids & seniors—all to fund tax cuts for the rich. Children will lose life-saving care so billionaires can hoard more.

still regret my timing in finishing Paul Lynch’s Prophet Song a week before the US election was called.

Looks like tomorrow will bring votes on a Republican plan to fund tax cuts for the rich by slashing Medicaid. So this is a great time to contact your Member of Congress.

INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR A NEW ERA. Open call deadline is March 21. What do we build? What do we let go?

My feelings are blue. My commitments are blue steel. Feelings are the storm. Commitments are the mountain they pass over.

I just heard this quote in a Village Zendo (New York) talk online—it’s perfect.

The Democratic party needs to immediately appoint and support Shadow Cabinet Secretaries able to give press conferences and issue statements every single day.

even better!

The irony of the richest man in the world almost single-handedly destroying an agency designed to help the world’s poor, so that the U.S. federal budget has more room for another giant tax cut for the richest man in the world and his pals, should not be lost on anyone. [Cartoon by Mike Luckovich]

last night went to a great reading in Bellingham—performances by JD Pluecker & @profstalina.bsky.social. before leaving home, I meant to check my handmade book collection for a @jdpluecker.bsky.social handmade book from a while back. I swore I had and sure enough. from 2011!

Following OPB's reporting on cuts at the Bonneville Power Administration, Oregon's senators are calling on the Trump White House to halt its actions.

“‘[N]o system of ordered liberty can allow the Government to use the carrot of dismissing charges, or the stick of threatening to bring them again, to induce an elected official to support its policy objectives,’ he wrote.“ just another day in the US of A

We are in a dangerous time but here are two important facts: 1. Trump's base of support is a minority. 2. That base is going to shrink as his agenda is enacted. The opposition is the majority. No moping allowed. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/they-are-a...

watched BBC Documentary episode on Amapiano—have been loving listening since. if you Spotify, here’s a gathering. am sure there are lots of other good lists out there. open.spotify.com/playlist/37i...

This also applies to your local state reps, too. State AG not joining lawsuits? Call your state reps. Governor not standing tall on standing up to asinine executive orders? Call your state reps and call your governor. This matters, even on the west coast.

#Seattle peoples—a worthwhile event at CAM on Feb 16th—hope to see you there @adelaideblair.bsky.social www.tickettailor.com/events/commo...

I applaud the AG for challenging this order targeting trans youth. I hope Seattle Children's reconsiders their decision to cancel life-saving, gender-affirming surgeries for trans teens. Let’s not comply in advance with unconstitutional and cruel directives. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

People care. People are fighting. Please don't think that no one cares. Please fight back where you can. Maybe you can't march. Call your reps. Reach out to local orgs to volunteer, or donate what you have. Build ties in your community. There is something you are good at. Use it to fight for good.

Yes, they need to do what Brian Schatz is doing - blocking nominees to try and save USAID, and less of what Schumer is doing, e.g. only showing up at protests. Tell them to throw ever procedural possibility at the wall right now, and don't let up.

Blumenthal: "It would be one thing if we had some disinterested, impartial business person -- highly successful -- looking at ways to make our govt more efficient and save money. That's not what's happening here. Elon Musk is doing a power grab & information heist, the biggest in American history"

BREAKING: A federal judge has blocked President Trump's executive order forcibly to detransition trans women inmates and transfer them to men's prisons, citing the 8th amendment prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment.

Share this list. Call your senator, especially blue senators. Tell them to stop helping Trump overthrow the government. You can make one phone call!

this is a great start. and the energy of being a part of this helps offset that sense of doom and isolation. but just standing around outside and yelling putters out after a while. at any case, glad it's started.

Three weeks into the London blitz, Molly Panter-Downs wrote, “The courage, humor and kindliness of ordinary people continue to be astonishing under conditions which possess many of the features of a nightmare.”

“Once you decide that a single vulnerable minority can be sacrificed, you’re operating within a fascist logic,” they said. “That means there might be a second one you’re willing to sacrifice and a third, a fourth. Then what happens?”
