The Trump administration wanted to control the most basic aspects of the university, including what is taught and who is hired. The wanted to turn Harvard into a fancy version of Trump University. And when Harvard said no, Trump used publicly funded research as a hostage.

Jesse did not ‘question an aspect of the progressive message.’ He dedicated his *entire career* to popularizing the idea that progressives are unhinged, anti-science freaks who are foisting permanent surgeries on kids without assessment.

I reported on economics full-time in 2020. It taught me there are no incentives to have a baby in the US. Women in the US have to pay for pre-natal, medical and child care, earn less, do most of the parenting and chores, get promoted less, and are now at 27% higher risk of maternal mortality.

I’ve never seen a tweet that more effectively communicates how we got to this current situation

3 days ago RFK Jr. told the CDC to stop recommending water fluoridation, claiming it was a neurotoxin (this is a lie). Turns out he also just eliminated the CDC’s entire Lead Program, and now lead poisoned children in Milwaukee are just on their own. Lead IS a neurotoxin and harms brain development

Welp, got an answer to this question: Apparently the answer is no tariffs are being collected. Trump broke the system www.cnbc.com/2025/04/11/c...

I still think about this tweet sometimes

I do think it's worth marking and remembering that these people were willing to tolerate everything we've experienced since January and more provided it didn't disrupt the economy.

Fox removed the stock market ticker from their broadcasts.

It is 2002. I am 18 years old. We are in a once-in-a-generation economic crisis. It is 2008. I am 24 years old. We are in a once-in-a-generation economic crisis. It is 2020. I am 36 years old. We are in a once-in-a-generation economic crisis. It is 2025. I am 41 years old. We are in a—

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

We simply had to intentionally destroy the world’s strongest economy while dismantling our scientific and educational infrastructure to ensure that a team with a trans girl would never finish second place in the Mountain West volleyball standings again

A big reason why we’re here is Trump has long spoken like he honestly believes trade deficits are some sort of fee America pays and should retaliate against and most people in the media were like “he can’t actually mean that, that’s way too stupid” so they covered him like he meant something else.

This is not an exaggeration: illegally gutting this program will cause Americans to freeze to death in their homes.

not to keep re-stating the obvious, but this is precisely what max weber meant by politicians are leaders who shape the future; this is also a perfect example of the despotic demagoguery that weber feared would arise in a world where (liberal) politicians failed to shape a positive future vision.

This is going to be the vibe coding version of the Chernobyl disaster, a wholly preventable failure caused by a combination of hubris, incompetence and design flaws.

Trump’s Gestapo needs five people to arrest an itty-bitty female college student I didn’t see any identifying markers/badges All of the agents cover their faces so we can’t find out who they are In other countries, they would call this “the secret police”

Democrats Huddle To Decide How Best To Let Massive Republican Fuck-Up Slip Through Fingers

I am BEGGING people to frame this properly. The issue here is not one colossal blunder where a reporter got info. The issue is it’s clear these people are all routinely ignoring the most absolutely basic security protocols, and WE HAVE NO IDEA what breaches this has already enabled.

Looks like I've made an embarrassing public mistake. Time to do what alpha males like me do in these situations: whine and avoid accountability

Dozens more pregnant and postpartum women have died in Texas hospitals since the state banned abortion, our analysis shows. As the maternal mortality rate dropped nationally, it rose in Texas by 33%.

No one could’ve predicted that a candidate who threatened journalists and spoke of jailing protesters would turn out to be an enemy of free speech.

Alright: I have to get a job in Los Angeles. I am out of time and my salary goal is low and I’ll do anything. My resume is 10 years of feature writing and four years in film/TV development. Nothing has panned out, not even retail. What do I do?

Good. No appeasement.

i made a more sympathetic bumper sticker for the anti elon tesla club people

Per a source, recipients of CDC grants received a questionnaire (maybe from OMB) today with some "absolutely nuts" questions. "Can you confirm that your org does not work with entities associated with communist, socialist, or totalitarian parties, or any party that espouses anti-American beliefs?"

Here’s what Democrats should say about trans women and girls playing sports: “Republicans don’t care about women sports. They just want you to fear young people living their lives freely—so you don’t get angry about their billionaire overlords picking your pockets and controlling everything.”

18F, the federal government’s technology shop, was demolished by Musk’s team shortly after midnight. It was a cost-recoverable org, charging agencies for their expertise, using a consulting model. Its cost to government was negligible, its benefits huge. My team there once saved DoD $500 billion.
