The other fucking reason I don't trust "AI" for anything

Things that modern life have not surpassed, and never will - chess, paintings, gardening, good food, textiles, pottery, poetry, stories, fashion, music, plays, love.

Watching a film about gardens in the 17th century, oh to time travel, life today is shit

I might be in my 50s but I still hope I am in with a chance with Kate Winslet

What is still more strange is that people should come to trust machines more than they trust themselves. David Bromwich in the LRB in Kubrick

It feels like we are revisiting the 17th century, it's going to take some time before our Locke and Shaftesbury appear, I always think of Viv Stanshall's response when asked by US cops how the Bonzo's protected themselves - good manners!

Rudakubana - blame game, but no one is talking about mental health. Why are we failing to protect people from their own mental illness? Mostly money I guess.

@tricialockwood.bsky.social I read your latest LRB article today and suddenly realised how weird I am, thanks 😏

I got to the end of my diary and found my resolutions for 2024, and yes most of my resolutions for 2025 will be exactly the same, keep on trying

Got new Filofax refill for my personal diary, they have printed QR codes on every day taking away valuable space, the whole point of sticking with Filofax is that it's offline, depressing

Time to read, currently reading Golding's The Spire, slightly sad that Ben Myers was quite so influenced in Cuddy but as that has a terrible resolution who cares? At least I know the spire is still standing.

That two glasses of wine feeling, so perfect, so elusive, and you know anything more is pure wil'o the wisp 😏

Just booked Viennese Whirl, a bit of seasonal froth from Opera North at the beautiful Huddersfield Town Hall. Which reminds me that Ian Penman undermined his Fassbinder book by stating that a fantasy film project would be Roth's Radetzky Waltz 🫣😆

Watching champions league and McKennie and Raphina scoring, Leeds what went wrong? #lufc

How often do you feel cheated of your time when reading? Two books in the last few months revealed terrible weaknesses in the latter stages, repetitive and a clear loss of direction.

Finally figured out how this works, I have a terrible memory for names and know no one so now more folks are here I can find people worth following.
