Nice coverage of the repair ecosystem in Nehru Place by The Verge, There’s a place like Nehru Place in most cities in India. In Chennai it’s Richie Street, In Mumbai it’s Lamington Road. I hope something tangible comes out of this right to repair framework

So from my uniquely weird perspective after living in the UK through Brexit, being in India during Modi's demonetization, and living in Brazil when the real tanked during the Bolsonaro administration, I can confidentally say that Americans do not and can not understand how bad this is going to be.

I was reading up on the actual Ice Age species Dire Wolf (which is very different from that scam unextincted rubbish in the news lately) and was reminded again about how fucking cool Dholes are. They are so ancient! So genetically distinct from Indian wolves! I love them en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhole

Happy Tartan Day! Did you know there is a tartan not only for Canada, but each province and territory (some unofficial). Let's look at each! Canada: Designed in 1964 by David Weiser, it is known as the Maple Leaf tartan and became an official symbol in 2011. 🧵1/15

All Protocol Observed Welcome to The Museum of Stolen History. This season, we profiled eight historical artefacts from every corner of Africa. We call it The Museum of Stolen History, in recognition of the fact that much of Africa’s history has been looted or erased. Read it here: bit.ly/TCMoSH

Though we never want it to happen; knowing what to do after a crash can make all the difference. Our friends at @thebikinglawyer.bsky.social  has many resources such as their Crash Guide which offers step-by-step advice on what to do if you're involved in a cycling crash.

I have a computer job and lots of hobbies that use my hands (fibre crafts, baking, gardening, music, etc). I would absolutely hate doing any of those hobbies as a job! They are tedious and difficult and only fun *because* of the lack of any time or productivity pressure

This is my favourite City of Toronto bin pic ever

If you think namaaz on the streets is misappropriation of public spaces, but are okay with Ganesha / Durga mandals and processions and Deepavali fireworks and Christmas and Easter midnight church services over loudspeakers, you are not civic-minded, you are just hate Muslims.

Me in 2021 😬

OK we all get that this is literally impossible though, right? Europe and Canada do not have the resources to absorb 75% of US scientists and btw getting jobs in these places was already competitive for the people who live there.

Ok I want to preface this by saying the full frontal assault in the US academy is a loss to humanity as a whole. But I said something to my students in my Theory from the Global South class last week that might be less debilitating than simply contemplating loss 1/

Trainees (especially US): What could our community be doing better for you right now? Maybe there’s an email you haven’t received? Or a meeting you wish were organized differently in the era of travel uncertainties? Answering on behalf of a friend is great. If we don’t know, we can’t help.

Happy (early) Birthday to the father of Field Epidemiology! John Snow, who turns 212 on March 15th, is legendary for using disease mapping to determine the source of the London cholera outbreak in 1854. #JohnSnow #Epidemiology

This is the kind of message I want to see coming into the “Do Good Shit” contact form 😎 It’s kinda giving “I heard about you from a fairy I found under a mushroom”, and I like that style of community organizing, personally.

Great resource on this from @analog-ashley.bsky.social www.thetransmitter.org/how-to-teach...

One thing I wish was explained to undergraduates more clearly is how letters of recommendation work and what they need to do in order to develop a stable of people who can write strong letters. Cause, like, if your first email to me - ever - is a LoR request, that's not a good sign.

A phenomenon I've experienced for years that makes me twitch a bit, is watching people (in the neighborhood, in the science community, etc) work their absolute asses off, then have people who do very little, demand that they work harder & do more, while that person sits & does nothing.
