Notwithstanding the role The Guardian has played in contributing to the collective amnesia described here (they've platformed numerous minimisers), this one is actually a pretty good article. Key point near the end: your chances of getting Long Covid increase with each reinfection.

“Maybe they realize that the world as it was in 2019 no longer exists, and they opted to adapt to the risks in this new landscape by taking steps to prevent constant illness in themself or others instead of normalizing it.” This is one of my reasons to mask, among many others mentioned here.

A few years ago, we created this infographic (available for download) for parents who wanted to have this conversation with teachers at their kids' schools, and Steph Fowler's piece is great for expanding on these reasons to mask!

Did you know that from Jan 1 to Feb 15, 23 Covid deaths were reported in NS? We've asked provincial political parties to acknowledge the death toll but they continue to ignore the pandemic. There have been 1182 recorded deaths in NS, the majority occurring after protections were abandoned in 2022.

COVID wastewater charts for the Halifax area as of 2025-02-16 Dartmouth: Moderate Halifax: High Millcove: Moderate

The Canadian Covid Forecast has been updated for March 1 to 14. About 1 of every 56 Nova Scotians is infected. The federal wastewater monitoring dashboard reports highest viral activity in Halifax. The pandemic isn’t over. Protect others & yourself by wearing a well-fitted (N95 or equivalent) mask!

Featuring quotes by @greyson.bsky.social & @formerantivax.bsky.social. Note the importance of lack of judgement here. If you're going to interact w/folks who haven't vaccinated their kids, being assholes to them isn't a great strategy. You don't know their reasoning. /1

Anyone want to see our latest paper on #masks? #healthpolicy 🧪 www.bmj.com/content/388/...

this morning, I spoke to Halifax regional council on workplace safety, diversity, and inclusion (again)

This is appalling.

"A Day in the Life of a Longhauler" is a photography project that captures the daily life of individuals living with Long COVID... Longhaulers are invited to share up to six photos from their everyday life which will be showcased at the Museum of Vancouver in the Fall of 2025.

I appreciate this response from Ed Yong on why he requests that people mask at his events. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...

If you want to fight fascism? Wear a mask. If you want to show solidarity with disabled people? Wear a mask. If you want to protect your own health? Wear a mask. If you recognize that no one is coming to save us? Wear a mask. My ultimate guide to respirators:

With major outbreaks occurring in the US & Canada, many have been asking about the MMR vaccine & whether it can be offered earlier to protect children. In short, yes, depending on whether you’re living in an area with local outbreaks or traveling and of course age. See infographic below for more.

Important reading.

Wow!! Such an incredibly impactful contribution from Sarah to our Long Covid Support Banner that will be the centrepiece of our #LongCovidAwareness Day event on 15th March. Amazing work! Thank you so much. 🙏 #LongCovid

Our work has been motivated by a desire to hold the government accountable and improve the lives of Nova Scotians. We've been fighting for healthier spaces & better public health strategies as part of the battle against authoritarianism.

“The majority of those with Long COVID did not resolve, with less than 2% having resolved Long COVID. The resolved Long COVID cohort had moderately worse physical and mental health compared with those never-having-Long COVID.” www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

I will use any excuse I can to keep sharing this video. The four horsemen of the ER right now: Influenza A, COVID, RSV, and Pneumonia are all #AIRBORNE.

omg. The NS speech from the throne last week opened with: "It is not the first time our province faced challenging times. In each instance, our province persevered because Nova Scotians refused to give up." I dunno, it seems like NS gave up pretty hard in the middle of a pandemic 🤷

People outside the COVID informed community see many of us as stuck in 2020 & 2021, while it’s obvious to us that most ppl are pretending to live in their 2019 fantasy where COVID doesn’t exist & doesn’t harm or k*ll or disable people (your risk of LongCOVID increases with each reinfection) 🧵 1/3

Heart damage found in over 85% of those with persistent symptoms triggered by a SARS-CoV-2 infection. And yet every day people are just huffing that toxic air, begging for their 4th, 5th, 6th infection, …

Want to fix student absence rates? Reduce illness in schools -issuse isn't students & teachers absent, the prob is they get sick at all *SARS-CoV-2 virus' airborne *easily transmitted *has lasting neg effect on immune system -More effort is needed to prevent the transmission of illness in schools

It's wild to see the same people clutch their pearls over school storm days, but stay completely silent about how illness truly disrupts the curriculum, causes extended absences, and can take weeks for recovery. learning can survive a few snow days 🙄

The NS government's unwillingness to acknowledge the effects of the pandemic continues to harm Nova Scotians. A lack of infection control allows Covid and other opportunistic infections to spread unmitigated in schools, healthcare, and other workplaces.

ICYMI: Vitacore has a sale until Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 11:30 pm Pacific Time. Up to 25% off. A free gift card will be added automatically to your cart for orders over $60. shop.vitacore.ca #COVID #CovidIsntOver #BuyCanadian

In March 2023, we asked the NS provincial political leaders to offer condolences to those who lost loved ones & commit to implementing strategies to protect Nova Scotians from Covid. Our request was ignored, and Nova Scotians continue to die & become disabled due to Covid. Will the gov. ever act?

COVID was an opportunity to adapt & be a more inclusive society. We could have learned about airborne spread & adopted clean air standards. Improved ventilation. Made more outdoor spaces. Normalized masking. Instead we’ve politicized infection control & made society less safe for everyone

Economist Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, soon to be NIH Director, has suggested that preventing Long COVID is worse than getting it. Around 100 million people disabled by COVID would beg to differ — myself included.” stanforddaily.com/2025/02/13/s...

Your child is not sick from lack of exposure to sickness. They do not have immunity debt. Your child born after lockdowns does not have intergenerational immunity debt. The immunity debt that your child’s mother never had was not passed on to them via her mitochondria…

I haven't read the book reviewed, "Air-Borne," but I wish the most recent pandemic had not just increased research focus on airborne transmission, but encouraged the public (esp. decision-makers) to improve indoor air quality. The practical response to this knowledge is abysmal.

There are a lot of illnesses circulating right now. Don't forget your terribly comfortable mask when you're planning to be out and about!

We're heading into a pandemic within a pandemic, and that's not the only threat. N95 masks will save your life. Wear them. www.the-sentinel-intelligence.com/p/were-headi...

Brilliant - @nychealthy.bsky.social teamed up with Matt McGorry to make an info video on long covid. It's hands down one of the best I've seen in 5+ years 👏🏼 1/3

Post-COVID Cough Linked to Neurological Dysfunction Coughing appears to be more closely linked to neurological dysfunction than to classic respiratory involvement. www.medscape.com/viewarticle/... #LongCovid #Cough #neurological #Dysfunction #PublicHealth #WearAMask #GetVaccinated

🔥 Awesome public health messaging from Matt McGorry & @nychealthy.bsky.social Direct simple facts that everyone should know 🌟FACT 1: There is a risk of #longcovid with every COVID infection... 📺🧵

COVID wastewater charts for the Halifax area as of 2025-02-02 Dartmouth: High Halifax: High Millcove: High

The Nova Scotia government keeps breaking our hearts by ignoring the pandemic. 1174 recorded deaths to date, and we know the count is much higher. And no one is accounting for the incidents of Long Covid in a province where 1 in 3 people already live with a disability.
