As an LGBT person, I have directly seen people state that they believe people oppressing people like me is okay in other countries because, again, "it's their culture and we don't want to be culturally imperialist"
and the discourse around the Middle East is nasty with this kind of thought

Alberta was the highest-paying province for teachers last time I checked and it still wouldn't be enough to convince me to go work there. They are actively hostile to both educators and students.

Unfortunately we’ve been in the age of leaderless social movements since Occupy - no one to pick battles, set rules of engagement, define boundaries or wins. Leaderless movements are not effective or sustainable.
