Yesterday, David Huerta, a champion for SEIU workers across California and a friend, was detained and injured by ICE while exercising his first amendment right. No one in our country should be subjected to harm for legally & peacefully protesting. David should be released from custody immediately.

Last week, I conducted an unannounced oversight visit at the Northwest Detention Center. I found people who never should have been detained and individuals not being told what their rights are. This is not what the American people want from our immigration system.
