Also it wasn't the 'university' class that ignored them, they have become more labour voting and more concerned about these issues. It was conservative party, more directly the Cameron/Osbourne project i.e. fleckless old elite posh private school boys playing political games

Yes, because all jobs have 5 weekly targets, nothing long term.....I have 3 targets for the year...plus a 'development' target. (in R&D in multinational). However whatever the system clever people can always meet there targets

Totally, my son knows a huge about many types of music that at his age I would never be able to explore. We have huge cross over now, because he would go I know that (old record I play him). Also I can explore stuff without buying it. e.g. the whole of Bob Dylan

This choice to include school fees does have policy and political implications, its not just economics . Controlling school fees e.g. interest rates/benefits when its only top 1% paying, when could be more about core (e.g. Food). Choosing school fees to be in basket is political as much as economic

Your right of course, this was true before the election, it was true at the budget, its even more true now. Also as you say, if the public realm does not improve, let alone get worse, they will be in big trouble come next election (and within the party). I really don't get why they don't see this.
