This is a horrifying ruling that shows a disdain for basic human rights principles — made all the more unconscionable by the fact that the Republican appointees did so with no reasoning and on the shadow docket.

It is worth reminding every American today that the people who hid Anne Frank were outlaws. The people who sent her to die in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp were law-abiding citizens.

Hahahahaha this is amazing coz she FUCKING LOVED being friends with Stephen Fry. He's EXACTLY the sort of twee faux-intellectual celeb that people like Joanne have on their dream lists of dinner party guests.

We have gone from the margin of error to the margin of effort. On the day before the election, we stand on the verge of toppling a political dynasty and winning a city we can afford. But we can only do it with you. zohranfornyc.com/gotv

From Hunter S. Thompson’s ESPN page 2 column one week after 9/11.

An incisive, and politically charged, talk on David Cronenberg's The Dead Zone (1983), with @exaggeratedelegy.bsky.social, @e11iotchapman.bsky.social, and @timescarcass.bsky.social. Well worth a listen. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QN11...

The mayor of Huntington Park had formally directed the police department to enforce laws against ICE concerning unmarked vehicles, visible license plates and required agency identification.

One thing the Dem establishment never really got over was the fact that Hillary Clinton lost the 2008 nomination because she supported the Iraq War. Denial and anger followed rather than learning from that decision.

Pretty amazing that a former president will sit quietly as one of his successors orders US troops into American cities and ships innocent people off to concentration camps—but feels compelled to speak up when a fellow HR nightmare is at risk of losing to another member of the same party.

crashing the economy and starting a war in the Middle East Donald Trump has finally become a conventional Republican after all

This is what makes me sick, because it takes place in the context of everything else—jailing political opponents, throwing students in vans, sending the national guard to LA; they feel like there's no need for even the pretense anymore and the majority of our curdled institutions will just go along

My only working explanatory hypothesis right now is that billionaires and authoritarians *Literally* thrive on human misery; that if people aren't suffering then all their money and power don't actually sustain them, and that cruelty & sheer horror are the only things that flow through their veins.

Hello, yes, I am keeping many keywords muted and will be posting through it

Just a reminder that a majority of Americans already support impeachment, including 20% of Republicans.

Art by master of details Angus McKie (UK, born 1951). Mckie has created countless book covers since the 1970s and has contributed to Heavy Metal magazine and the HM movie.

All this bullshit around the world right now is happening because literally just a HANDFUL of motherfuckers are trying to avoid justice & reckoning for their previous crimes. We COULD have a decent world. We COULD make things better. We are able to do that. And these selfish fucks won’t let us.

They have made the world living hell for no reason whatsoever. People will ask why this happened in a decade and there will be tremendous effort to make it more complicated than “they were evil, stupid, and bored”

me, time traveling: "strawberry nesquik is the defining drink of twinks". if you post that at the right time on twitter you could parlay it into a TV job and a book deal. 2012 or so. past me: okay. anything else that's important to tell me? me, time traveling: nothing comes to mind.

Uncritical support to crows

Probably my favourite Ghanaian film poster.

Think how scary this guy would be if you saw him in the Black Lodge from Twin Peaks

turns out climate change will cost dramatically more than economists predicted, and the cost of addressing it is actually negative. oops! prospect.org/environment/...

The destruction will be so complex that the next several administrations won’t be able to repair the damage swiftly, it’ll be cost prohibitive. So what we need to do is tax the rich and corporations and add the required number of IRS employees to start clawing back the cost of the damage.

There have been a dozen good reasons to cancel your NYT subscription in the last week but using Brianna Wu, a narcissist striver faildaughter griftmonger, as any kind of representative of the trans community, is pure malpractice

It finally happened. Bugs Bunny sawed off Florida.

Gen Z/Alpha: the 2000s were cool we should bring some of that back Millennials: ok, let us tell you about some of our fav- Z/Alpha: *blasting creed and trying on low waisted jncos* Millennials: no wait The Govt: oh hell yeah! *frantically starts fabricating evidence of WMDs in the Middle East*

Here's this week's 3900-word premium column, where I ask a simple question: Could Microsoft Kill OpenAI? The answer is "yes" if they won't budge on the terms of the negotiation to convert OpenAI to a for-profit entity - and Microsoft is threatening to walk away. www.wheresyoured.at/could-micros...

Harry Enten: "I think we can say Donald Trump has lost the political battle when it comes to what has happened in Los Angeles. Trump's net approval rating on LA - way, way underwater at -15 points... this is happening on what should be on Donald Trump's best issue ... he's losing on his core issue"

Greatest minds spending 1 billion a month to get linear algebra to be racist, and its not working. Once again linear algebra exceeds all my expectations

"16 billion passwords leaked" No link to news story for verification. I thought we were over this shit.

I keep seeing people saying "everyone who voted for the Iraq war was disgraced" no they weren't! It worked out great for all of them! Bush got re-elected! The 2016 Democratic Presidential nominee voted for it!!!

The hero we need

H. P. Lovecraft to Robert Bloch, [late October 1933], LRB 82-83 HPL was specifically discussing the Nazi's policy toward Jews and other groups.

So Starship Ship 36 just detonated *before* the static fire test - fueled and waiting for the test. Looks like the top tank lets go and sets off the whole stack. It would be bad enough if it let go during the static fire test, but it just blew up. And it's cooking off the fuel tanks on the pad.

Billy Idol was almost one of the space vampires in LIFEFORCE but the scheduling didn’t work out. He’d worked with Tobe Hooper before on this iconic music video youtu.be/FG1NrQYXjLU

- I asked ChatGPT—- - Well, I asked the Morpho Brain Creatures and they said if I just lie down and put this Somnar Disc on my forehead I will realise everything is COMPLETELY FINE

Wild how the Fed chair saying that *entire regions of the United States* won’t be able to get a mortgage in the next decade barely registered as a news event

Now I lay me down to sleep And pray the Lord my... JNCO jeans?? And if I die before I wake I pray the Lord... my big ass pants

This is such a great point and isn’t made enough! We have a trans daughter but a mostly conservative extended family (and in-laws, to some degree), the exact people you’d expect would be awful on this issue. They have not been! I was prepared to do battle but we’ve been so happily surprised.
