Also last time there were tanks in the neighborhood I lived in was Cairo. Right after the Rabaa massacre. Think about that.

Lest you are confused as a leftist I have long subscribed to the FT since it is the single best way to track global capitalism. This is a sign it is betting on 1) the euro replacing the dollar as a safe haven and 2) that the Zionist colony is bad for business.

I really miss the days when people felt shame for being uninformed morons in public and thought twice about confidently revealing themselves.

Khandar/aranyer din ratri; and of course their respective Calcutta trilogies. It is so rewarding watching two masters argue with each other.

I am mildly obsessed by these artistic relationships that progressives and humanists had in Bengal: Tagore-Nazrul, Ray-Sen. I recommend watching Ray in tandem with Sen. Try pairing ek din pratidin/Mahanagar on women in the city; baishe shrabon and akaler shondhane/ashani shonket on famine 1/

Tbf this was almost certainly Sen’s own relationship to Ray which he kinda sorta admitted to once to my dad.

I have Mayakovsky’s relationship to Akhmatova when it comes to Ray. Die hard Mrinal Sen but under my pillow you will find every poster of every Ray film ever 😭🫠
