Very interesting paper from @drmcnamara.bsky.social and @profbambra.bsky.social that explains 1) what is a #policycrisis and 2) its implications for global health and health inequalities

In our new paper @profbambra.bsky.social and I argue that the ongoing #polycrisis has profound implications for global #publichealth, shaping health inequalities now and for future generations. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

The UK has higher rates of health related worklessness than most comparable economies. In tackling this, the government should be careful to not drive people into more poverty, stigma, and ill health, and thereby further away from employment @profbambra.bsky.social www.bmj.com/content/388/...

When I was 5, I loved science, which I took to be planets and magnets and chemicals and shit. Soon I realized science was a collective human activity, and these were just the objects of its attention. Anyway, whenever I read an OpEd on how science isn't political, I think "Are you 5 years old?"

putting people in extreme situations, of little future, harsh work conditions, little social services support, living costs higher than one can afford, is an effective way of driving people mad. harsh conditions might also get people voting for extreme parties, as a last 'way out'.

I'm so glad that we are rebuilding #AcademicTwitter and #ScienceTwitter! They were extremely important communities, and their decline was a genuine loss. I am grateful and hopeful that Bluesky is giving us the chance to rebuild these remarkable human networks. #AcademicSky #ScienceSky
